My Long bed, super crew, XLT Powerboost FX4 with Max Tow rides better than any vehicle I have been in for years short of my dad’s 70s luxury cars. My old ‘99 Diesel Ram rides like a truck and bumps about knock your teeth out. I absolutely love the acceleration and quiet power of the Powerboost.

That being said I am regularly pushing the limits of its bed capacity, though it handles it fine, and am flirting with the idea of an F250 diesel. Weekly I make a 120 mile highway trip hauling the wife and boys with me, so 700lbs, in the cab and in the bed another 800-1200 pounds of cargo. My max load is 1,545, so I am at or over it a few hundred pounds regularly. Additionally, 3-4 times a year I pull a 17,000 pound trailer with my old Dodge.

Moving to a 250 gives me a couple of concerns, first is the acceleration, is the power stoke acceleration on par with the Powerboost? Secondly is ride quality.

6.7 HO will be similar on acceleration with the 2.7 EcoBoost (low 6 second range 0-60 and upper 14s 1/4 mile)

3.5 EcoBoost and 5.0 V8 F-150 are faster than the HO PowerStroke. 3.5 is low 5’s and 5.0 is upper 5’s. 2.7 and 6.7 are both lower 6’s which is plenty fast for a 6,000+ pound bohemith imo. It will not feel light on power.

I say you're fine.
All this reading this last week about Max weight I'm calling BS.
Honestly, all my friends are big dudes, so Ford is telling me I throw three of my friends in there at 225-250lbs a full tank of gas, my after market spray in bedliner and I'm pushing my overall limit at 1260lbs?
Forget the tools in the back or God forbid I have my ladder rack on the truck with some lumber and a few 80lb bags of cement.

If you can swing the initial cost and the price of fuel/fuel economy won't bother you I so go for the 250. One of my coworkers has a F250 deleted 6.7L, tuned with a lift and the most absurd low profile 12 inch wide tires you could imagine. His truck rides great which I would never have guessed. Another guy I know has a 6.7 with no tune and it's certainly fast enough to put a smile on your face. Honestly it's a little crazy to think a truck that heavy can get going that fast that quickly. Just my 2 cents

My 13’ 250 gasser was a slug! That’s kinda what made me go back to a 150, one test drive and I was sold. Sometimes I think I should’ve test drove a new 250 but reality is it’s overkill for me and more of a want than a need. For you it sounds like a need though.

I think that’s all relative, when the 6.2 gasser came out in 2011 it was the fastest gas heavy duty Ford had ever created from 1912 through to 2011. It was also faster than the Chevy 6.0 and Ram 6.4, so it was faster than anything it was benchmarked against.

Is the truck squatting with that load? If not, I would just drive it easy when loaded up with cargo. Perhaps air bags and different tires before moving to a 250 which will not ride as nice or they wouldn't sell so many 150s lol.

Now, if you want it for double duty towing a 17,000lb. trailer then sure. Regarding acceleration with the 6.7 HO the 250 is not going to scoot like your PB. It's just too big and heavy to respond that quickly. I'm not saying the F250 isn't impressive and awe inspiring at full roar, the PB is just too fast.

i had a 21 f250 short bed crew cab 4x4 with factory 20 inch wheels and michilen tires
empty it road almost as nice as my 16 expedition , really
only bad thing was chuck holes and weird pavement would cause rear end to bounce .
if i carried 200 lbs in bed it was fantastic , i have driven it for 12 hrs at highway speeds and was pretty comfy
i was amazed at how great it ran down the highway and still pulled in 23 mpg it had the 6.7 engine and 3.31 gears

my 22 f150 imo rides a bit squishy at recommended tire psi so i run higher psi up front to take out some of the sidewall squish, put 200 lbs in bed and it rides really great and 1- 12 plus hour drives on highway are very comfy

everyone is different
i would go drive a 250 4x4 and load up the family and take a run down the highway and see

only reason i sold mine, was that we just didnt need a 250 for our normal day to day
but i still think it was great ride

all my other super duties beat us to death

I’m surprised to hear that. I thought the 6.2 was bulletproof and with 3.73 could haul some serious ass like nothing was back there but get up and go did not impress me from day one. I live in a hilly area and it always had to down shift to get around so maybe that plays into my perception. I am a slow driver though and I don’t know that I ever really stomped on it empty. I had the 6spd and I’m sure the new transmission helps it now.

i had a midlife crisis when i bought her...knowing full well she was more than i needed ....the RED had me at HOWDY ?o_O:love:
even with side steps, my wife had hard time getting in, and she never drove it. moved it few feet fwd and back once.

i saw her a few weeks ago and i almost had tears ... new owner does not respect her at all:ROFLMAO:, she was dirty and he lifted her with what looked like 4 inch lift and BRO'd her up with leds in wheel wells, stupid stickers in the rear window

I see your argument for upgrading to an F-250. Coming from someone who's getting his pinion seal replaced and an engine oil leak addressed after hauling 9k lbs. a half dozen times, I too am considering upsizing.

A cement contractor I hired a couple of times purchased a new 2022 F-350 Screw long bed with the 6.7. He shared with me he prefers the ride of the 350 over the 250. He believes the added weight provides for a smoother ride. It's so powerful that when he punched it pulling out he squealed both tires. All that said, it may be worthwhile to test drive the 250 and 350.

Best of luck with your decision!

I built a KR FX4 F250 SCREW loaded with the 6.7HO and it was 96k. I was surprised at how low it was lol. I bet I could max out an F150 and get close to that.

Limited use vehicles those Super Duties. Explains the cost per pound lol.

yes its actually better value f350 long bed is more truck for almost same money, plus you get a big fuel tank

i have driven in hopped up mustangs and they were the cats paw
but pressing the go peddle on a 6.7 with traction control off is a life changing event, it will stretch your eye sockets backwards and the tq just keeps on coming
