Greetings Fellow F-150ers,

First time poster, recent lurker. I got some great ideas and info on this site and figured this may help others on here with the same issue. Made the big switch from lifetime GM products to first Ford and first brand new vehicle.

Purchased 2121 F-150 XLT off lot locally end of August. Love the truck! At around 4400 miles, I started the truck and no big 12" screen came on. Took it to the dealer and they replaced screen but it still didn't work. They contacted Ford directly which said its the module and will need a new one. They also told my dealer that there is a programming issue and could not give an ETA when they could send one out. I asked the dealer if they could grab one from another truck, and they said they are vin specific.

We got the truck to replace our Suburban for our frequent road trip vacations and our upcoming first month-long road trip across the US will have no screen. What did we loose?

GPS
Car play (which I use Waze)
Radio/XM
No hands free phone
Cant tell what speed fan is on
Cant tell what vent location settings is blowing
No back up camera
No power to USB charger
No 360 cameras including bed camera which I use to check our 2 scooters in the bed.

Im sure there are other things you lose, but now were bringing a portable speaker for music, bought a Garmin GPS for the trip, and pretty bummed about not having the cameras to park my crew cab standard bed.

My salesman encouraged me to call Ford and open up a case, which I did after insisting with person on phone to do it.
So bottom line, if you have one that goes out, it might not be the screen but the module, and be prepared to wait for one.

That stinks. The part shortages make any warranty work suck. (No matter what brand you buy.)

i dont know if Ford has this, but with Mopar the parts department can declare the part essential with their region rep and that puts it to the top of the order chain (ie overriding all other dealer orders), and if it takes over 30 days, they then pull the part from the assembly line. Might be worth looking into to see if Ford has similar process

Thanks. I’ll ask my Ford dealer about that and see if that’s an option.

Why buy a GPS when your phone has one built in for free? Mount it on your dash and use it that way. Google maps app. Or if you have an iphone its called maps.

Buying a GPS these days seems like a waste of money unless you specifically need to plot way points.

Or use Waze on the phone, which he used before.

I would have a discussion with the service manager and explain that you feel the truck is unsafe to drive due to the inability to access the safety features. Demand a rental truck until they can fix the screen. This will also serve to elevate your case because Ford is paying for a rental.

We do a lot of traveling and are sometimes out of reach of cell service so a stand alone gps has come in handy. I actually run both Waze and GPS when traveling, as each one has both offered better routes.

I thought about requesting a rental for our 5k mile trip as not having my 360 cameras makes it more challenging, but my add-on accesories(ramps, tinted windows, tie down points, etc) are nice especially traveling with 2 scooters in the back.

Greetings,
Just wanted to say I got my new module installed for my 12” screen today. 8000 miles and 3 months later. On the drive home everything seems to work except the bed camera. I used to be able to see what’s in the bed while driving which was nice. The feature is there but it’s just blank. Will let dealer know but not ready to give up the truck again.

The Ford hotline was very easy to work with and I had one person assigned to me who would call the dealer and then call me with updates. I think that was key to get things moving. Ford hotline even called me today and said she has something for me for the inconvenience and will tell me in a few days to check on how the repairs went.

So many features lost with that screen that I called it my Sanford and Son truck because of not having any bells and whistles.
Back to loving my truck again…..

I never had the bed camera feature while driving ever. Kinda confused as why some have it while others do not…

You were way more patient and understanding (at least from the tone of your posts) than I would have ever been.

Plainly and simply, we got screwed. Remember when this was one of the most complained about things and how useful it would have been to see our bed loads when driving? Well the "job 2" trucks all had it by default (starting some time in July '21). I was completely shocked when I heard some people have this feature.

Apparently the module that would need updating is the IPMA (image processing module) but the odds of a dealer knowing anything about what it is or how are probably below 0%.
