Picking up from Granger next week and will be staying the night. Any recommendations on where to stay or areas to avoid.

Never been there, but a quick search shows zero hotels in Granger. Lots in Des Moines which is like half hour or more away. No idea about areas to avoid. I get the impression that Des Moines is the only thing close to a city in Iowa

We stayed at a chain hotel close to the airport, nothing special. Half hour drive to Grainger. During the week Grainger has a shuttle service from certain hotels at the airport, they will tell you what ones. We were on a Saturday, so we booked an Uber and was about $60.
