brand new truck. only 170 miles. After driving about 20 minutes I can smell what seems to be burnt oil. I find no leaks, I see nothing on my garage floor and I am not overheating as all gauges read normal. 3.5 ecoboost. All fluids are full. Don't want to take it to dealer if it a normal break in thing. I need my truck everyday for work.

The only thing that will produce a burnt oil smell is oil dripping on a hot part. But you would normally smell it right away, not after 20 mins. So I would just keep an eye on your oil level.

That's definitely not normal. I have 500 miles on my brand new lariat 502A and the only thing I smell every once in a while Is like a plastic burn smell but never oil burning smell. This is my 4th new car in the 8 years and the smell has always been very similar. It usually goes away after about 1,000 miles

They sprayed mine with a rust control waxy product and it smelled for a few weeks, but I knew about it so i expected the smell

after I think 2 weeks those kinds of products harden and don’t drip anymore

On previous version of the 3.5 that would be a classic symptom of a vacuum pump seal leaking on the back of the passenger side head.
I do not know if the current Gen3 3.5 Ecoboost has the vacuum pump mounted to the end of the cam the same way.

You would need a small mirror to get a look back there because it is right up against the firewall.

Hello there! I'd like to look into your smelling concerns on my end. To get started, could you please send over a private message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer?

I have a 2022 F150 5.0 engine and experiencing the same burnt oil smell. Has Ford suggested a fix?

Not surprised they can't. Majority of dealer techs won't put forth much effort to diagnose complaints like this. If the scan tool can't tell them what's wrong then they are left scratching their heads and claim "can't replicate it." Reputable independent shops with old school techs will in most cases actually spend more than 5 minutes looking into it.

Chances are you have a gasket or seal that's seeping just enough to produce burning oil smell. Best advice I can give you is to try to localize where the odor is originating from. Then get an endo-scope camera like this one and take a closer look.

Yeah The last time they fixed something I had to hand it to them on a silver platter. Going to order some UV dye and toss that in the oil and then get a scope and find it I guess.
