Wondering how many ppl take both set of truck keys when road traveling? Coming up for a 10 day road trip thru smokey mountains then west Tn., then back home to Southern FL.
Your thoughts pro/con on taking both sets of keys.
Thanks

I picked up a waterproof magnetic hide a key and stuck it somewhere hidden on the frame. The magnets are pretty strong and will stay there until you need it. Just make sure you get the little faraday bag so the truck doesn't pick up the fob near the truck.

I always take both fobs with me while traveling. Wife gets one and I keep my fob. Don't want to be out in the middle of nowhere and lose my fob/key. I also, put an air-tag on my fob.

Link?

How can you trust a magnet, be it as strong as it gets, that it won't shift/rattle/fall during hundreds of driven miles, potholes, etc.?

You’d be surprised how well a strong magnet will stick to a thick metal plate like the frame. I also placed mine on top of the frame between the frame and the bed in a nice tucked in spot. I wouldn’t stick it to the bottom. I’ve driven quite a bit even thru floods.
You made me curious since I haven’t looked in a while and looks like it’s still here.

I’m not trying to sell you on it, just saying that’s what I do :)

My wife always wants to take both keys and I never do …. But I let her take both keys to avoid the argument….

Always have two keys. My wife had her bag stolen with her key. If that was the only one, it would have made for a very very bad experience.

A couple of zip solid zip strips would might be prudent for a little added insurance if you’re going this route. I like it.

So, you leave your key stored/stashed here or only when going on a road trip?
Thanks

Yup, give one to the wife. Solid plan. I also keep them in small travel Faraday bags at end of day.

I’ve had mine in a waterproof magnetic box full-time under the frame for 15 years on several trucks. They’ve never moved.

That includes lots of off-road wash board, etc. Those magnetic boxes aren’t going anywhere.

I always take the second fob when on my hunting trips, just in case I somehow manage to lose my 1st fob. I keep the 2nd fob in the truck and could access using the keypad if necessary. You just have to make sure you use the keypad to lock the truck when you exit with the 1st fob. The keypad was the main reason I bought a '24 rather than wait for a '25. Really stupid of Ford to drop the built-in keypad and expect people to be happy with some stick on keypad. Thought about what would happen if the battery were to die for some reason and the key pad would not function and checked into having another entry key cut, but that was very expensive ($100+). I suppose I could pull out the entry key from the second fob and hide it some place assessable from the outside, but then if my batteries were dead, what good would it do to get in the truck? I was having battery problems with my 2019 platinum that would go into deep sleep mode. Even in deep sleep mode, the truck would unlock when the 1st fob was in range. I bought one of those battery packs that I started taking hunting with me as back up so that it would be a solution to getting in the truck with a totally dead battery and starting it with a low battery. My main goal was not to be stranded out in the wilderness, locked out of my truck with a dead battery, 10 miles from any rescue. In the end, I replaced the battery and hod no more deep sleep problems, but I still pack that 2nd fob when going on any extended trip with my '24 KR. Maybe I'm just being overcautious, but would rather be safe than sorry.
