I’m about to order the kicker key 200.4 with plug n play harness and hideaway 10” sub in the kit that plugnplay sells. i know the key 200.4 isn’t a lot of power so don’t want to buy speakers for the doors and tweeters that arent matched correctly, any advice on what’s worked well with the Key amp. Thanks in advance.

There are many options and opinions. I myself went with Infinity Reference tweeters and door speakers.

I did the speakers about a year before adding the amp. They made a big difference but the factory head unit just did not have enough power so I added the 200.4 and a small powered sub.

Good choice. I went with Kicker 47KSS6904 for the front door and A-pillar tweeters. For the rears, I went with Kicker 47KSC6504. I figured Kicker amp so Kicker speakers. Maybe they test their products together 🤷‍♂️ While I had the door panels off, I also added a few squares of vibration deadener to the outer door skin. Finally, @SoundsGoodStereo sells these sound blocker panels to fill the large access hole in the inner door skin.

One other thing, you might want to consider bi-amping the front door and tweeters and leave the rear door speakers alone. I barely notice the rear sound unless I’m sitting in the back seat.

I hope this helps…

Thanks for the responses. Texas Truck those kickers you went with sure look like they need more than 50w RMS to really perform, they’re rated for 150 W RMS surprised the little key amp pushes them correctly, I may do just what you said regarding not doing the rear speakers at first , seeing as all of this will be at a thousand dollars including the front doors, maybe later on do the backs. I rarely have anyone in the back seat of my truck.

I thought the same thing, but they have good efficiency and capable at 15-150 watts. Certainly they are are not driven to their full potential, but they perform very well at low to medium high listening volumes. If you crank it of course you’ll start getting distortion, but that’s the amp limitation not the speakers.

Ditto on the bi-amp, that will be my winter project to restore my rears to factory power and configure the fronts and the Key to bi-amp.

First question anyone should ask is what's your budget?

You will want a speaker that has a wide frequency in the front doors and high sensitivity. The higher the sensitivity the better the speaker performs on lower power.

The soundsgoodstereo block off plates are magic. I had my speakers amped prior to the plates and its night and day difference how they sound and perform.

Serious question, what is the obsession with the block off plates, wouldn’t sound deadening covering the plastic gasket hole be the same thing? Seems really invasive to seal a hole.

Why do you put subwoofers in a box? Same principle. The plates turn the door into a fairly sealed compartment. Door speakers get louder and clearer at lower power. Iven even seen some people install 8 inch mids in the F150 doors. Ford used to do that on the Mustang in the Shaker 500 and 1000 stereo system. Ive even considered but for now I'm happy with how my truck sounds.

Oh I get sealing the door as a sound chamber just seems like it would be a lot simpler to cover the hole with soundmat to do that vs drilling holes and rivets with multi hundred dollar plastic panels.

On the advice of @SoundsGoodStereo I went with Gladen RS series front and rear plus tweeters. They produce plug-n-play kits that make upgrading a breeze. I'm very happy with the sound, especially the tweeters because the factory ones are way too shrill.

Well, no. The hole in the door is far larger than any piece of sound matting, so you'd either have gaps between sheets or have to overlap pieces of mat, all of which will flex anyway making the point of having a solid enclosure basically moot. And if you're spending all this money on audio equipment anyway, is $209 for the plates (and that's front AND rear) really that much of a hit to your wallet?
