OTA updates

I have both the IPC (dead instrument panel issue) and Brake Boost system failure (also software it seems), waiting in the balance, but it is not clear to me if OTA is just there as long as I have my Wi-Fi setup to my house, which I do.

Or does Ford tell you for sure, we don't want to brick your truck , so you must take it in. This process or what constitutes what is not clear.

Does anyone know how Ford does it?

My dealer wouldn't tell me shit. A cpl of guys on here have access to Oasis and fdrs. They told me that I was way behind on updates and helped me get caught up last year on my 21. Dealer refused to even attempt an update.

It will be sent OTA eventually, but no telling when that will happen.

I had the brake boost taken care of recently via mobile service and on Tuesday they are coming back to do the IPC update. Both are supposed to be rolled out via OTA, but not sure when. Plus, my tech told me the brake boost update was pretty large so it perhaps might be iffy for some via OTA.

I took truck into dealer and had the seat belt chime, dashboard, brake boost and the axle bolt recalls done, the axle recall they do an inspection and order parts, who knows when the parts will show up. they gave me a loaner car, they had the truck all day.

OTAs are NOT delivered via WiFi. Why people (not you) continue to post false information is beyond me.

Some OTA updates are delivered via WiFi, some are through the built-in cellular, but it likely depends on criticality and size.

Had the same issue on my 21, PB Limited, ie, at least 10 modules with updates issued that Ford had no interest in updating. For the dealers I have spoken with, they don’t want to update modules unless there is a specific directive from Ford to address and known problematic module, then they will do that module. If it works fine with existing modules, they won’t touch them unless the vehicle is new, new. That said, I updated all of mine myself anyway.

Nope. Only one was sent via WiFi, and IIRC, it was to fix OTA updates over the TCU. Unless something was changed in the last ~6 months or so (which I have not heard of). Been doing this for years.

Exactly 100% correct. Unless you have a great relationship with the dealership owner (I do).

I splurged for the Mongoose Plus and update my F150 and Dark Horse when I feel the urge or find out an important fix/update is available.

While the vehicle's built-in cellular modem is used for the initial "handshake" and to check for OTA updates, connecting your vehicle to an external Wi-Fi network (like your home Wi-Fi) is the preferred and often faster way to download the larger update files. Ford's official support pages and owner forums both recommend connecting to Wi-Fi to ensure the quickest and most reliable download process for the OTA.
