Just got wheels, tires and suspension for my rig.
Bilstein 8112 zone control on the fronts
Bilstein 8100 DSA on the rear
JBA UCAs
Toyo open country RT trails 285/75/17
Method 703 17/8.5 +25

I don’t know how much I like the suspension so far, the rides fairly harsh both on and off road. I’m guessing this is because these shocks are tuned for a truck that’s +500 lbs heavier than mine.

Great build. Similar to mine. Bilsteins are the firmest, Fox are the softest and Eibauchs are in between… from what I’ve read. Check my signature for all my mods.

I’m gonna bet a lot (if not most) has to do with the E load tires you’re running. I have the same RT Trails in 285/75 but in an 18 which are also E rated. Been on the truck for just over a year. I have the Eibach Pro Truck coilovers and did the wheels/tires/coilovers at the same time. Noticeably more harsh than stock but definitely not “floaty” at all.
Haven’t gotten around to putting my stock wheels/tires on to compare just the suspension change but I’m currently in the process of getting moved over to a 17” wheel to have a decent selection of a C or maybe D load rated tire.
I’m no expert and I’m sure I’ll have people disagree for a myriad of reasons …but for our RCSB trucks, I don’t think an E load is ever going to be necessary. It’s overkill and makes the ride too harsh.

Awesome build!! I love seeing off-road setups on these RCSB. I’m also a little biased towards carbonized gray haha!

whats your tire pressure at? you can be crazy low if those are E rated tires. and even lower for your off-road shenanigans. thatll help a ton.

those bilsteins are straight baller though. nice build.

i will say, i've never had any tire issues when running e rated tires on our 4runner for our baja and az trips.. however, the extra weight, and rough ride really got old. I went to a D rated skinny 34 and it's still too HD. The SL 33's on my f150 feel amazing comparatively.

I imagine the light rear end of a RCSB truck is going to ride different than a 4Runner in general. Especially when there isn’t any weight in the bed. Not really and apples-to-apples comparison. Have you ever daily driven a RCSB?

I’ve run various pressures for both the front and the back over the last year. Logging both overall feel and fuel economy difference, if any. Any change I made was for a full tank run to empty. Ranges in PSI were 28 to 45. Discount Tire suggested they be run at 45. The overall feel of the ride was negligible, at best. Notable difference in improved ride quality was (obviously) when some type of weight was placed in the bed. PSI change (from my experience of messing around with it over the last year driving it daily) had a very negligible change in overall experience.

Thanks man, your rig looks great as well.
I’ve heard about what you’re saying but these 8112s are supposed built completely different than the 5100s and the 6112s so these are supposed to be more comfortable at lower speeds in comparison.

Yeah I’m sure the E rated tires don’t help and I couldn’t try them with the stock tires since bilstein says the rear shocks won’t clearance without wheels with 5.75” or less of back spacing.
But I’m mainly comparing this setup to my old Tacoma with the Eibach pro truck stage 2Rs on it, and it had BFG ko2s, which it soaked up the harder hits better than these.
Could be the springs too. These are made for a super cab or super crew truck. I’m gonna email bilstein and ask if I could get a light spring.

Doah!!! I missed the 8112 part. I prob would have gone with those as well but they were not avail for my truck when I was ordering suspension.

probably feel quite a bit better at 28-29 all the way around. In winter keep 200 or better lbs of tube sand in the rear, I think they are 40lb tubes at any big box hardware store dirt cheap. It will help a ton with traction and also calm the ride down and if you get stuck you can bleed some off to get out or help another.

Yeah I’m sure it 28 psi would make it better but probably not enough to avoid weird tire wear.
I’m gonna eventually mount my tools and off road recovery in the bed which should help, I’m also thinking about getting a winch.
I’m gonna email bilstein and ask if they can revalve, tune, or get me lighter springs.
if that’s not a option then I might think about Fox 2.5 DSCs from accutune. But in the end off road performance is a priority since i really use my truck.

ya dont say??! You mean a leaf spring setup will be different than coil springs and 4 link???? ground breaking stuff my guy.

my point was the tires weight rating, PSI, vs the weight of the vehicle. Reducing tire pressure helps a lot.
