I have the same noise On my 22 5.0 XLT FX4. Sounds to me like “slop” in the rear differential or u-joints. It’s not the front brakes, It’s definitely coming from the rear of the truck. I never hear it driving around just after dead stops. It’s seems more denounced accelerating from an up hill stop.

It sounds like your slip yoke needs lube—it's a known issue that Ford seems not to care about... I have to lube up mine around each oil change (2021 XLT 4x4).

I just had to grease my slip yoke at 15k miles. Simple fix, but it had hardly any grease on it when I took it apart.

Take a look at your U-joints. They can give this kind of noise. Also you can find a noise analyzer with sensors you can attach to various points. It comes with four sensors. Has a control box that you can listen to each sensor while the truck is in motion.

curious if you have the same noise if loaded or not? I have a clunk from a dead stop. happens every time. but.... put a couple of hundred pounds in the back and no noise at all. drives like a dream. smooth starts with no noise at all. Once i take the weight out there is no clunking for a few days but then it slowly comes back. Did some reading on other sites and some say it is the leaf spring isolator bushings.. i have a service appt coming up and will mention it.

When I towed my trailer I had this happen, only in first gear. At my last oil change I asked them to grease the slip yoke which supposedly they did. I think they did because I saw greasy grubby hand prints all over one side of the car later…he probably wasn’t happy about doing it lol.

I've seen it before. Check the torque on the leaf spring u bolts. I have had about 5 trucks with them not tight enough allowing the diff to shift on Accel. Just moves enough to make a clunk. I can't remember the torque spec off the top of my head.

Is this during towing, or not towing? Mine only did it when towing, OP seems to do it regardless.

The U-bolt torque specification for the rear axle U-bolts on a 2021-2024 Ford F-150 (14th generation) is as follows:

Tighten the U-bolt nuts in a cross pattern in four stages with the suspension at curb height (truck resting on its tires, suspension loaded):
- Stage 1: 35 Nm (26 lb-ft)
- Stage 2: 70 Nm (52 lb-ft)
- Stage 3: 100 Nm (74 lb-ft)
- Stage 4: 150 Nm (111 lb-ft)

When the trucks came to me they were unloaded and no trailer on and I could make them make a single clunk on Accel sometimes they would clunk once coming off Accel. These were all parking lot maneuvers from a stop. Just a quick stab of the throttle. I never had the chance to test in any other conditions such as loaded or with a trailer.
