Just received my ‘25 and noticed oil leak at 700 miles. Dealer replaced oil filter adapter, which didn’t help and then, after digging in further, discovered porous casting. A new short block is required. Has anyone dealt with this issue this early? Since the truck has to have the engine removed, are we just stuck relying on the warranty, or is there anything that can happen, compensation wise, or other, to at least feel better about paying for a brand new truck with a new motor?

Happened to my father way back with a 6.0L. It just wouldn't start on the first try, turned out to be a porous block. They aren't required to give you anything except a fixed truck. He tried to lemon law it, went to court, but didn't win. You could ask for an extended warranty, but they aren't required to give you that. You could threaten lemon lawing it (depending on if you met the requirements) and ask instead for a very long warranty. Lemon laws change by state, so look them up for yours and see if you meet the requirements.

With a brand new truck I would have hoped Ford would give you a long block instead. Cab comes off no matter what but that is not “that” big of a deal anymore. Labor savings on a long block vs cost probably does not work out.

I'd argue the fact I would want a brand new short/long block, not a rebuilt. That would be my hill to die on.

That should get a new engine under Fords low time in service program. Ask about it.

I know there was tsb for a porous block on some 2022-2023 5.0 engines. Haven’t seen any on the forums with this problem but the tsb was to replace short block. Sucks that a new truck has to be torn apart for you. I know I wouldn’t be happy.

My expected brand new 2009 bus with 8.3 cummins isc...
On pre delivery it was idling
We noticed every few seconds oil was dripping on ground
Tech ramped it up to high idle
We crawled under..yup
Oil was mysteriously passing through block....
We took delivery of the other bus,
Same except paint scheme was flipped

Cummins replaced engine on that coach
It happens.
Even on engines pre run on test stand.

Screaming about it in all caps is all good and well, but stuff like this is going to happen occasionally. Ford is duty bound to fix the problem, which their proposed fix should do. You can ask for a new truck, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Like others have said, maybe a free extended warranty would be realistic.

Ummm it’s not all caps thank you and it’s not screaming!
Stuff like this is going to happen?
Yes it does but it’s still UNACCEPTABLE having to replace a 700 mile engine on a brand new truck.
Ford needs to step it up and make it right by offering him another truck. Imo

Fair enough, only one word was screaming in caps. Like I said, ford is duty bound to fix the problem. Whether it's UNACCEPTABLE having to replace an engine at 700 miles is irrelevant; it still happens. This is an example of opinion and emotion meeting reality.

No emotion/screaming as you say
Just an opinion!
We can agree to disagree.
