Catch-can. Well that wasn't difficult

Ok. So which catch can is everyone recommending?
I have a 2024 5.0 n/a. 2200 miles on it and want to get a catch can just to have a little piece of mind knowing that gunk is being removed.
Also, I live in Ohio and wondered about this stuff freezing up. Is that something to worry about?

In my opinion and doing my research. UPR Catch Cans are the best bang for your buck. Best built quality with the design of the insides of the can itself and the hoses are made by Continental. I have this same setup from video #1 in my 2023 Rocky Ridge. It’s a 3 year old video but UPR is using the same catch can for 2021+ trucks. The second video further explains why you need a catch can. The third video explains UPR’s patent design when compared to the competition/competitors.

I bought a J&L catch can for my 2012 F150 3.5ecoboost. It’s never had a catch can on it… I know shame on me. I am also going to order a catch can for my 2024 F-150 3.5 ecoboost. From what I gather sooner is better, and I have 1,000 miles on her with the majority of those miles all highway. Work and back. I work an hour away from home. However I lIve in a very cold climate. (During Winter.) hopefully I havent had a lot of that shit dump into my motor.. Taking Ol blue from now on until I can get both oil catch cans put on. One is on the way. I cant decide of i want to get the one from Improved Racing or UPR. I am kinda leaning towards UPR Though. Thanks for the videos Sigma1914, those are helping in the decision.

I wanted to see what everyone's experience has been with Catch cans on the '24 3.5L. I installed a Mishimoto dual catch can setup and am getting a check engine light with a code for PCV pressure out of expected range. Super disappointed, I have been in contact with their customer support and waiting to hear back again from them.

I was hoping that someone had a report on one that is working with the 24's.

Other than the larger capacity of two cans vs one, I see no benefit to having two of them. I have the J&L setup (3 oz can) on my truck and in colder weather I see it fill up in about 500 miles. In summertime I see virtually zero in it.

take that off or don’t drive it. You are getting a restriction somewhere. You risk blowing out oil seals and/or gaskets.

Toyota recently release that they WILL void any engine related issues that can be attributed to a catch can. They are seeing a lot of leaks and seals failing due restrictive catch can systems.

Just a thought. Not sure if Ford will follow suit. However, may want to remove a can if going in for any oil leak related warranty work.

Thanks for the reply's, I have driven with it for a total of maybe 60 kms/45 mins. The first time I reset the check engine light, it stayed off for maybe 20 mins and came back on as soon as I restarted the truck. I took it off and put on the factory PCV hoses. After your reply's I will be sending it back today regardless of what their customer service says.

yeah, I don’t have the details of it. A buddy is a tech at Fort Wayne Toyota dealer. This was something that was passed along from the service manager. He did say that it wasn’t a dealer based decision. It was corporate.

it sucks but yes, you are completely correct. Sadly, they are all in the business of making money. It is not about making the best product for the consumer. It’s kind of like mil-spec. The cheapest product that meets the design requirements

THIS is exactly why EVERYONE that’s running a catch can from whatever company (Doesn’t necessarily have to be UPR) SHOULD also run a billet one way check valve crankcase breather to replace their oil cap! So that if your crankcase is experiencing more than usual pressure, that pressure/gasses could vent with ease and no unmetered air will re-enter! Here’s a link to UPR’s breather. Hope this helps! Sorry Toyota but UPR makes theirs for Ford and GM only. Although there are other brands that will support other vehicles.

IF you want to run a catch can. You can absolutely run one. Just make sure you also add one of these so that excess crankcase pressure can vent without any unmetered air re-entering your crankcase. This might help clear those codes your truck is running. Here’s a picture of my setup after the videos. You can see my breather attached under my catch can.

Yes. This should solve the issues you are running into with the codes. Because if I’m guessing correctly, your truck may be throwing codes because of excess crank case pressure. And if that is the case this will help. UPR now allows you to stack a couple of options with your EcoBoost catch can kit. My setup is the 5.0L UPR’s catch can with the larger pro series check valve attached to the hose, clean side separator (or CSS), Crank case billet one way check valve cover and the adjustable high flow PCV check valve. All of this ran me close to $600 but I see it as an investment that will save my engine in the long term.
