The initlal question was about how to make your truck last 20-25 years. Stop being snippy.
Still wrong. Read the first post in this thread. I literally quoted it for you, snippy, but I guess even that wasn't good enough for you. ?

RCSB = Might as well buy a Prius.

Smart folks change thier oil when it reaches end of life. Not only do we "continue enjoying high-mileage, trouble-free motoring" as well, but we save money, too. ?
Well I’m certainly plenty smart enough to know the difference between a RCSB and Prius. Shall I assume this comment is coming from the driver of a minivan with a mini bed on the back?

I certainly wasn’t knocking your opinions on anything. Please keep on enjoying paying for oil analysis and oil changes.

Oh, and I apologize for interrupting your pissing contest about the original intent of this thread, haha.

You are a free to assume whatever you would like. But we all know how that typically turns out ... I was actually injecting a little humor.

I do oil analyses in order to avoid major repair bills and extend the life of my vehicles, not to save $6 on an oil change.

Hey all!

Appreciate your time! Please excuse me if this has been overly-discussed! Assuming oil changes are done every 5k miles and the manufacturer maintenance schedule is adhered to - what kind of F150 build combination should have the most longevity/reliability? I want this truck for 20-25 years/ 200,000+ miles with the least instances of severe issues.
Engine (spoke to a few mechanics- all say stay away from turbos but that doesn’t seem to be the consensus anymore online)? suspension? Does gear ratio matter for this? Any effect of trim level?
Thank you! :)
I don't see a newer F-150 lasting that long. Motor and transmission maybe, but all the electronics... No way. Coworker leased a powerboost this summer and he couldn't take all the issues. Pulled up the other day in a Subaru after years of owning Ford trucks. My 23' Lariat now my 24' XLT has been one thing after another. Currently at shop with 4x4 issues. The focus has to be quality and Ford taking control of the parts they use. Something has to change. Their focus now is cutting costs to improve/maintain profits. It has been painfully obvious. Some laugh, but the keypad alone will keep me from buying new. Used to own lariat and higher trim levels. No way in hell anymore. I have a 5.0 with 3:73 rear. Supposed to be a terrific setup for reliability. Time will tell. Owned two 3.5 EcoBoosts. Love them as a daily, but cross country towing turbo lag was a thing. I don't notice the 90lb's of torque difference with the 3:73 pulling 6200lbs. When I dropped my truck off they had a 22' loaded out Lariat on the lot. Had so many options that you don't see anymore for 46k... I was jealous. Also couldn't believe all the new trucks on the lot. I sure as hell wouldn't be ordering right now. Latest and greatest is no longer a thing with the new F-150's. I would trade my 24' for that 22' in a heartbeat. My dealership has said for some time they are seeing an uptick of people seaking used trucks. Makes sense. Not only cost savings, but more options.

Wanted to add both were Dearborn trucks ?

Nearly 70K miles an zero issues with my '21 Platinum. I have no evidence to presume 200K miles is not easily possible.

With a 21' or 22' I could see it. That's why I would like to go back. My Dealership saw the uptick in issues with the 23's. Glad to see the dependability.

I’d say the 3.5 and 5.0 are pretty much tied in reliability. The verdict is still out as far as 2021+ 5.0’s go. They added cylinder deactivation and an oil pump belt in the 5.0 so time will tell how it holds up. That’s why I decided to go with the 3.5 EB. Just don’t exceed 5k miles for oil changes for any of the engines. Whatever you end up getting, also get an extended warranty for sure.

A popular mechanic I watch on YT released this on the f150 yesterday- at 10:00 his words stuck like a dagger. Are fords use of plastic parts a distinct disadvantage vs competing manufacturers?

Have you seen under the new tundra’s hood on the 3.4 TTV6? It’s a sea of plastic. I trust the ecoboosts way more than this new tundra engine.
