Just to confirm, you got the truck to recognize a trailer by using these lights? They seem like a much better alternative to the bulky adapter I'm using.
Correct, just plugged the 4 pin connector into a 7pin to 4pin adapter. No resisters needed.

This might be a great alternative to one of the long brake light bars you install under the tailgate. It would give you a bigger footprint for the brake light and let you activate the side cameras with BLIS.

I find the tail light brake light footprint on the 2022's is tiny for the rear view and I always wanted to add a brake light bar under the tailgate to increase the braking visibility. This might kill two birds with one stone.

Could you answer a few questions for me about this set up. It sounds great.
  1. Did you use those LED lights and do they work fine for braking and turn lights?
  2. Does the truck think you have a trailer hooked up?
  3. Did you have to create a trailer profile for it?
  4. Does the BLIS still work for you?
I am thinking of using those LED lights you linked to and just attaching them under the tailgate to get the benefit of additional brake and turn lights. Just leaving the 7 pin to 4 pin adapter hooked up with these lights plugged in to get the side view on with turn signal activation. If this keeps the BLIS active that is the main objective.

Any thoughts or problems you see with this is greatly appreciated.

The lights work fine for turn signals and brake lights. It's what they are. The truck does think you have a trailer connected, since the trailer is connected, BLISS, Blue cruise, etc. do not work. That's why I don't run with them. If there was a way to bypass the safety system disable when a trailer is connected, I may run them. But nobody has come up with anything. It's kind of a catch-22, the turn signal camera view needs the trailer to work.

With a real trailer connected, I'm fine with the safety systems being disabled and having the side view is a big help.

BLIS with trailer works for me if I set up a trailer profile with minimum length. There's a page in the owners manual specifically about it for setting up a 'bike rack'.

This is exactly what I was thinking when you mentioned this. Having the truck think there is a trailer but the demensions of the trailer are only a couple of feet long and less than the width of the truck. This would let you have the side view, get an additional brake and turn signal, and still have BLIS function as normal. All this without Forscan changes.

I wonder if you know what the smallest trailer profile is as far a length wise?

The smallest selectable length is 3 ft. I left the width at the default of 6.5'. You can choose smaller but there was a note about entering the truck or trailer width, whichever was greater. I get BLIS and cross traffic alerts, but it seems I lose distance warnings from the radar sensors when backing up near an object, which is an acceptable trade-off.

You would still lose BC if that matters to you.
As long as you have a trailer configured less than 30 ft long, and as wide or less than truck, BLIS is supposed to work. Cross traffic only works with a 3 ft trailer entered.

I do not use and do not have Blue Cruise (BC) so that is fine with me but thanks for bringing that up. It may help others that do a search and find this thread.

I think I may give this a try in the fall. Leave the default at 6.5 width and go with the 3 foot trailer.

This girl bakes in the Virginia sun and never sees a garage so as long as I can just see backing up, that would be an acceptable trade off for me too.

Thanks for the info.

I installed this light bar today. It plugs directly into the 4 pin outlet by the license plate, no adapter needed. It's much less intrusive than a bulky adapter and tricks the truck into thinking a trailer is attached. I don't really have a need for the lights so I've just zip tied them underneath the bumper for now.

Thanks for confirming this and replying. I was wondering if that adapter was needed as that 4 pin is already there. I just ordered a set and will give it a try.

Interesting that you don’t need an adapter. Your’s is how my 18 was. But my KR 22 came with an 7 pin to 4 pin adapter. I do not have a 4 pin outlet on mine. Maybe another covid delete.

My 2022 Lariat PB has the 7 pin on the top and 4 pin on the bottom. I got the now non existent Tow Technology Package and did not get a tow package. Maybe that Tech Package got that for me.

That's due to the tow tech package that supports yaw sensor, TPMS, and trailer camera occupying the 12 pin connector slot. That can be swapped out for the 7 pin / 4 pin assembly if you want it instead.
