Thanks. Do people upgrade the small 12v in the passenger compartment as well? For sure Im going to replace the engine bay battery with an X2 or similar.
Good question. I'm not sure. It is placed in small protective plastic box so you might not have much room for a larger battery without modifications. I do think most people recommend replacing the passenger compartment 12v battery at the same time you do the engine compartment battery as it may be bad as well.

BTW...I have a 23 PB as well. It only has 1500 miles so I cannot comment on the reliability except to say that the dealer had to replace the engine compartment battery so that I could even test drive it. It had been sitting in the lot for months. After 5 weeks of ownership I've not experience any 12v battery issues probably because the dealer already replaced it.

I have a ‘22 Lariat 502a PB with 46k . Great acceleration and gas mileage. I had a few minor issues at the beginning which Ford fixed without issue and it has been great since. Love this truck. I would not hesitate to buy another PB. Good luck with your decision.
Thank you Sir

Thank you. Im not finding a part number for the small 12v battery, Anyone know if there are aftermarket replacements for it?

Yeah, that's it. It's back ordered on the Ford Parts website. I'm not sure you'd want the OEM part anyway given Ford's poor track record with 12v batteries as of late. I'm sure you'd could take into Batteries Plus and they'd hook you up with a quality aftermarket product.

Looks like I'll be buying 2 new batteries this weekend. Thanks

Good deal. You have warranty and you can always get extended coverage. Buy it.

I have a '22 PB XLT 302A; I love it. Yes, I did get that P0430 cat code, but it went away on its own after a few days, currently having that looked at just to be safe. Otherwise, 23k problem free miles. I couldn't pass it up, it was a similar deal. It was a demo and was listed for $12k off as it had 1,825 miles, but still able to finance and purchase as a new truck. Aside from this one code and the possible brake line chafe recall, ZERO issues. I'd buy a PB any day, I love my 7.2kw!

I can't recall reading of even one instance where the 12V battery under the rear seat needed to be replaced.

12V battery under the hood, yes. Many, many times.

I think because it does so little that it is not taxed to failure. This small battery would just die of old age before it gets worked to death. :)

With that said my thought process is OEM can use the bare minimum to get the truck out the door so if you replace the main battery, and you got decent life out of it, just replace this one at the same time. Then at least that gives you piece of mind you may not have to address this small battery again.

After seeing all the issues with the BMS management (maybe addressed by Ford) and possibly poor quality batteries from OEM, for the extra $100 I'll just swap them both out at the same time.

The engine 12V the ICE starter, the rear seat 12V controls the electrical/electronic stuff. If either is low you’re not going anywhere. Some argue that most of the warnings popping up for various maladies are related to low 12V issues. The electronic are very finicky re voltage. Test BOTH batteries. If either is bad it will be a parasitic draw on the second . Most dealers replace one but this is probably a mistake and one or other will likely fail again. If either is bad you may have to replace both for reliability.
