I have over 5,000 miles and it has been perfect. I was washing underneath and now it will start in electric mode, but after it switches to gas, it will never go back into electric, even when idling. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Ok, it’s working normal now. When I posted this I had just come back from about a half hour drive, and it wouldn’t go into electric mode at all. I turned it off and back on a few times during that drive, still didn’t fix it. I went into the computer to see what was going on and it said it was running because the engine was cold, but it definitely was not. Going into that menu may be what fixed it. I have no idea what’s going on with this thing but it’s frustrating.

Did you get an OTA recently? If so, was the update for the PCM? PCM updates require the truck to get to full operating temp before it will go to electric only again.

The last one I see is from March according to my app. It seems to be working fine now, I got scared for a bit and really didn’t want to take it to the dealer. I’m sure they’d say it’s due to my bigger tires but it’s been running more than 20% electric since I put them on over 1,000 miles ago.

I recently noticed that selecting the auto feature for the HVAC seemed to cause mine not to go into electric mode. I don't normally use auto. I tried it twice this weekend and both times caused it to not go into electric mode. Maybe if I had left it on auto for a period of time, it would eventually gone into electric mode, but I was trying to figure out what had changed to cause the lack of electric mode. After over 13,000 miles I know with pretty good accuracy when it will go into electric mode.

I thought about that, not auto but I had it blasting with the seat blowing cold air too. I turned it all off and still wasn’t getting electric mode but maybe that is why it didn’t want to switch.

Any DTC? P0A1E is related to the starter/generator (BISG). There is multiple instances of that code. Sometimes it will throw a check engine light, other times it will be ''silent''.

If the DTC is active, truck will not go into electric mode.

I had the issue you have on my 2022 earlier this year. Truck would not go into electric mode, even when warm and idling. Often it would go back to normal after an on/off cycle. Issue would come back after a couple of days. P0A1E was present every time. Sometimes with a CEL.

Took it in to the dealer. There is a TSB on that issue (TSB 23-2347). They ended up replacing the starter/generator under warranty.

Thank you, I will come back to this if I need to. It is working now but if it happens again I’ll hook my FORScan up to it and see if there are any soft codes. There was never a dash light when it happened so I’m not sure if this was the issue.

I just had check engine light and this code pop up. Went away after 2 power on-off cycles. I’m planning on towing a car-hauler from Louisiana to Utah for our relocation. Any harm if that code pops back up? It looks like it’s more related with hybrid system. I had 12v battery replaced by dealer last year with stop safely now issue.

I don’t know, mine had this issue one day and not again since. I turned it off and back on a few times and it kept doing it. After I parked it for a while and used it again it worked fine. I never found out what was going on but it works now.

I had a similar problem a few months ago. I got a CEL and the PB would remain in ICE mode without ever switching to electric. Dealer said it was an issue with the alternator which seems to also help regulate when the two motors switch. Might be the same issue?

Wow. That’s some serious dealer level knowledge there. The PB doesn’t have an alternator. Take care they don’t make things worse.

I never figured out what it was, it just stopped doing it and works like normal now.

I’m getting this code p0A1E. Reduced power mode. Previous owner had it at about 20,000 miles and they replaced the battery. I’m getting it at 30k. Battery is running at 14.2V and 88% health. No idea what’s going on merrry Xmas. Trying to get a hold of a dealer tomorrow but who knows

I only had it happen that one time, and I had sprayed water under the truck to clean something so my guess is that’s why it happened to mine. I didn’t see any codes and didn’t hook FORScan up to it so I don’t know if there were any soft codes either. Good luck with it and let us know if it’s useful information. Merry Christmas!
