I'm not taking a poll, but I'm pleased that the thread is looking like lots of happy Powerboosters.
I personally believe the vast majority are. It's just negative experiences often carry more weight.

I agree with that. My only problem with the 21 was they used ferry batteries in them when they parked them in the lots waiting for Modules and forgot to put in a new one when it was shipped. Replaced and good to go. It’s been 2 yrs and no other problems other than the usual recalls, wipers, wire harness and flickering led tail lights.

Thank you everyone that's replied. Makes me feel better about pulling the trigger on a powerboost. Hopefully the one I buy doesn't cause me to get more grey hairs than I already have lol.

If looking at used:

Have someone run the VIN on a truck you are seriously considering. Or purchase a 72 hour $21 license for PTS and run the VINs yourself.
Any truck that has been to the dealership once or multiple times is going to have a service history that can't be hidden from you. :)

Good luck.

FDRS can run history and see all codes found when connected. I've seen some super electrical gremlin trucks that took them months and threw dozens and dozens of codes. This one platinum I was looking into was a huge cluster. Couldn't believe how many codes that thing was throwing over the 2+ months they were playing with it.

Is the powerboost worth it or am I better off with a gas engine.
The Powerboost has a gas engine. It is the dominant method of propulsion for the truck.

Is it worth what?

I weighed my concern regarding overcomplicated technology with the exciting proposition of owning the most powerful half ton this side of a TRX that is capable of powering an RV or two with comfort and style. The Ford F-150 was already the standard in half ton trucks, much like the Tacoma is the standard in mid-size, so I leaped and bought an XLT 302A 4x4 with 7.2kW.

12,797 miles so far and the truck has exceeded my expectations in every way. Amazing vehicle.

If you are uncomfortable with the technology risk I understand, but all new vehicles come with technology that can give the dealers fits and you have found this forum to help with that regardless of choice.

PS. If you wimp out and get some lesser truck don't let me pull up to you at a stop light ;)

Love my Powerboost. 14k miles (24k miles total), average 23.3mpg over it's life with me here in the northeast dealing with hills and winter fuel. Much better than my RAM 1500 with etorque hemi that 16mpg on a good day with a tailwind.

I've had my PB since August. I've had no issues with it so far. It has towed our TT with plenty of power, even up mountain grades like it wanted to go faster than I would let it.
It is probably the first vehicle I've owned where I can say it's a pleasure to drive.

My son is learning to drive my Nissan Frontier stick shift. I let him drive my PB the other day as a bit of a reward for doing well learning stick. His comment when we pulled in the driveway, "I like this!"

My 2022 PB has over 27k miles now... With no PB related issues at all.. With the addition of the electric motor, the torque available always puts a silly grin on my face...

For my work, I spend a lot of time sitting in my truck.. So the ability to have full power and HVAC without the engine running is invaluable.. And the security that I can power the house if needed is pretty good too.

So I can't think of owning any other truck.. Ford or non Ford.. Though I really like the dashboard on the GMC trucks...

Agreed. That was one of the deciding factors for me. I work construction so the only "break room" from the elements we have on most jobs is our vehicles. The fact that the truck isn't just idling the engine the entire time is priceless.

The other deciding factor was the 7.2 kw onboard generator. Although my house isn't set up to be completely powered the easy way, I won't have to suffer through another outage. I get them too often where I live and it rarely happens when the weather is pleasant.

The most cost efficient means is a generator back-feed jack. If you've got some excessively large loads they might need their breakers turned off, but with careful management you can even run electric water heaters.

So I pulled the trigger on a 23 powerboost, traded in my 20 Jeep Wrangler diesel. Picking it up tomorrow from the dealership. Fingers crossed that no issues occur.
I traded in my 22 mustang gt/cs last Friday. The more I drive this truck the more I like it.

Did you test drive it and test out all the features? If you catch any before the sale is made, you can decline or push for a super fast fix. I would test every drive mode on the truck and bring a corded appliance and test the inverter. With that said, I don't think I've read about any INOP inverters after delivery. Anyone?

FWIW, bugs/issues pop up, I just want Ford to take care of them within a reasonable timeframe. Nothing is perfect.

Have a 23 PB Lariat with 5500 miles and so far I love the truck. Averaging about 22.5. Mpg. Only thing is the value dropped hard on these trucks.
