If getting the Premium Care plan is it better to get it the day you buy a new truck or before the 3y/36k warranty runs out.

You pay extra waiting but it's not killer. First 12 months is best for the lowest price. I bought used truck this time around so got it within the 3 yr 36k window.

Run the numbers between Granger Ziegler etc there are several. Granger should still be lowest.

The major difference is that buying it at the dealer allows you to work it into the financing, but there is a price for that obviously.

I passed at the dealer, but the more I thought about how much high tech stuff these new trucks depend on, and the enormous costs to replace a camera or a module or computer I thought it would probably be worth it.

I did an end run and went to Floodford site and got a 8 year 125k mile warranty for like $2300, instead of paying my dealer $1500+ more for it, it's just an upsell that's very profitable for the dealer and Finance guy.

I usually agree with FordTruck... but there is no penalty or increase before 3\36. Ideally you want to drive and 'learn' your driving habits. Some people dont put 7,000 on their truck per year. Others put 20,000 on their truck per year.
When you are close to either 3yr or 36k miles, but not over either of them, call and get quotes specific to your driving. It might be a 7yr 100,000 or an 8yr 80,000... and each of those will have a different cost.
My last truck 2015 Plat was 8yr, 125k, and at 7yrs 7 months I was at 118k when I sold...

After 12 months 12k miles ESP is $100 more for any length of coverage. It doesn't go up again until after you pass 3 years 36k. Like I said it's not killer, but $100 is $100 if you plan to buy ESP might as well keep that money. :)

Thank you for the answers. The sensors and headlights being half the cost of the warranty made the decision to get it easy.

i will say buying it from NOT your dealer almost always is less money for same coverage's
except my 22 i got the same esp that zeigler quoted me for 100 less at my selling dealer as she was not going to loose a sale and i paid cash for it not financed into the the pickle
and my grand childs fusion 2019 i got it for same price at zeigler and they dealer did the inspection for free

so my lesson is get a solid quote from the parties we mention here and see if your dealer will match or beat its a no loose question.

Light coverage is separate add-on.

I bought light coverage, then ended up replacing all the lights with some I bought online, so not my best investment there. ?

Hmm, my last few buys have been through Lombard and Jack always says pre 3\36 and you're good.
I'm probably gonna go through Granger next time, just cuz I've heard such good things. Jacks always been a good guy though.

Note, too, that Ford does occasionally increase prices across-the-board on all plans (they did that earlier this year).

I got the 8/100 with 100 dollar deductible from Grainger and saved 500 or so over my dealer. After a couple issues, nothing bad enough to sideline the truck but enough to make me think, I decided for the first time in my vehicle buying life the extended warranty was worth it. I got it at 18 months and 18000 miles. It probably is a smarter play in that scenario to wait until right before 3 or 36k but I just decided I might as well get it over with now.

My last truck had 113k in 13 years and this one has 18k in 17-18 months. It is my family hauler but I also have a company car so it isn't a commute vehicle. I was off from work 2 months so it was driven an abnormally large amount. I'm betting 90k max in 8 years.

I remember the FO telling dad about it when he bought the explorer. We didn’t ever have to use it but it was a nice buffer since we did buy it used and out of the bumper to bumper.

I seem to remember an option to include lights, which was more $$...

Sometimes they raise the prices twice a year. Typically in January and if I'm not mistaken I think they raised it again this past summer. Usually Zeigler notes an upcoming price increase on their homepage, others may do this too.

Yeah, and as far as I've seen those increases are such that I couldn't keep up with them by deferring purchase and investing the dollars.

For me the decision to buy the ESP at time of vehicle purchase was a no-brainer: I bought my '22 Lariat and deeply discounted ESP from Granger Ford and rolled the cost of the ESP into 0%APR vehicle financing from Ford.

Yeah, I realize circumstances differ, 'YMMV'.
