Hi,

I'm currently going the Buy Back route with Ford regarding my MY22 F150 Lightning. I'm interested in picking up another F150 and the Powerboosts have my attention. From what I've read, it seems as if the MY21 and MY22 Powerboosts haven't been that reliable. Many sites suggesting just stick with the 3.5 Ecoboost instead for various reasons.

How's everyone's reliability been? What about mpgs? Are you getting the advertised mpg benefits of the hybrid powertrain? What about regen braking? Going from an EV to ICE, I'll miss the regen braking the most.

Took delivery on one 30 Jun-21. Live in Wyoming & so have many miles on it and two cold winters (-20ºF typical). One minor blip: Had some funny electrical warning messages while on the road for Thanksgiving travels; replace the main 12VDC Battery with an off the shelf NAPA drop in. Not a peep since. Otherwise flawless. As to the regen braking, its not as apparent as the regen on a 2006 Escape Hybrid, but its there doing its job. Mileage: On I-80 @ 80 mph speed limit, I see about 21-22, on state hiways (~55-65) I see around 26, in a hilly & rolling city like Denver I see 27-29.

23s seem to have something funny w/ wiring. Hints at fuses not being settled fully. Love my 22, wouldn't trade it for anything but a better version, preferably PHEV. I also have a mach-e.

Aside from the pavement princess flower haulers, full size trucks have no business in a BEV format. Glad your moving back. Get the 3.5 - its bulletproof. I dont pay much attention to mpg's but the 3.5EB much better than my old 1998 and 2007 Tritons in every way

It all depends on your use case. I loved the Lightning while I trusted it. It worked great for everything I needed it for.

Appreciate the feedback on the Ecoboost. There's a premium for the Powerboost and I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it.

The PB has a lot of things baked into the package itself that's not readily apparent. The base option has the 2.4kW inverter in it like the base lightning option. The $750 upgrade takes it up to the 7.2kW inverter. Strongest non-raptor frame, 3.73 gears, C4 hitch are also part of the package. I wouldn't have gotten an F150 if it wasn't for the powerboost.

No real factory issues with my 22 PB. I don't fully utilize the 7.2 system but I love having it available. Before modifying and in the right conditions I was getting the advertised MPG's, however I was taking great care to drive with a light foot. Overall I am very happy with the truck as a daily/camp/road trip vehicle. Probably unpopular opinion but my 01 7.3 Excursion was a better off-roader (even with all the "off road" drive modes in this truck). But if you're not planning on hitting trails that require you to stack rocks and have a spotter, this truck is excellent.

I have a 2022 502A. Love it. Very Fast, Very Quiet. The transition from electric to gas from a stop isn't at all elegant, I understand why, But still. Other than that, no regrets.

Only Daily Driver F150 i would trade it in for would be a PHEV.

Long time 2.7 & 3.5 Ecobooster.
Love these trucks for everything from commuting to towing RV's chasing sunsets and sunrises.

But once I test drove a 2021 Powerboost, it's the Ecoboost with some amazing utility.

As HammaMan pointed out, a lot of things "baked in" that might not be obvious at first glance. One of the BEST advantages is truck-as-an-office!
I have spent many hours over the last 2.5 years sitting in the truck parked in a rest area or parking lot, in perfect comfort, on the laptop/phone taking care of business. Yet the Ecoboost motor isn't running for more than 4-5 minutes per hour.

That's such an amazing feature if you need it.

One thing I would point out is the axle bolt shearing issues that some of the 21-22's had with the max tow option.

Good point, the max tow is effectively a waste on the powerboost as it only decreases payload. Another nod to the powerboost's 'engine' option is that it already gets max cooling.

It's absolutely worth it! It's much more powerful than the 3.5EB by itself for starters. I have 7.2kW of 240V/30A AC power available. My air conditioning compressor runs off the HVB and doesn't need the engine running. It's amazingly quiet. Did I mention 570 ft./lb. of torque? That makes driving the PB incredibly smooth because it accelerates effortlessly.

For the money, I chose and therefore think my 302A XLT PB is more truck than a Lariat 3.5EB no question.

I've got a 21 PB with the FX4 package that I ordered on March 21 and took delivery on May 21. At this point, it has 26k miles on it and not a lick of trouble with it (minus the couple of recalls it has had; what vehicle doesn't these days?). I love having the 7.2kw available when the power goes out in Wisconsin. On the MPG front, I am getting 21-22mpg with the cheap stuff.

If my truck were totaled out today, I would repurchase a 21 PB tomorrow without hesitation.

Are you going to order one or try and find one off a lot? Granger in Iowa is doing 3 percent under invoice on orders. They also have discounts on their in-stock inventory. Chapman Ford is offering discounts, too.

I'm convinced that there are literally 10's of 1000's of Powerboost owners like yourself.

But you aren't supposed to say such things on the rant forum. Why are you even here? ??
