Stupid people playing stupid games sometimes earn other people stupid prizes. In this case, a stupid person not paying attention to the road in front of him caused a freeway incident resulting in me slamming into him, and then into the retaining wall. The 6500 pound trailered pit I was pulling is the only thing that kept me from going over that retaining wall and into oncoming traffic. I survived. My baby...not so much. Homeboy (stupid person) was uninsured, so now my insurance company is trying to decide if this is a total loss or whether they can rebuild it. 14 days into this ordeal and we are not being very Progressive (hint hint). I freaking loved this truck. And am fairly certain she's totaled (as is the collision center manager).

If you don't have a 2ch dash cam then you need to install one post-haste. Leaving aside the witness statements, the dash cam provided irrefutable proof of what happened and who was at fault. Also, why is it not an arrestable offense in Texas to drive without insurance?

IMO, DWI (Driving Without Insurance) should have the same penalties as DWI (Driving While Intoxicated).

Sorry for your woes but glad you are OK.

Sadly even driving with minimum insurance can be a major headache for the normal driver. My state VA has one of the higher minimums and that is only $50K bodily and $20k property.

Here you go buddy, heres $20k for your $70k truck. You have to make sure your uninsured and underinsured personal insurance is robust to guard against these idiots.

same for NO DL..arrest and impound
i am so tired of uninsured and no DL people getting a ticket...toss them in the clink

oh a very glad your ok
dont dick with your insurance.. they have a legal obligation to make you whole as your policy dictates...hold their feet to it

So glad you walked away from the accident. You have ever right to be frustrated about the whole situation. I could not agree more with getting a dash cam. I just had a front and rear view (of traffice behind me, not occupants) cam installed a few months ago.

Best wishes on a quick turnaround on your claim and getting a new set of wheels. Fingers crossed it's totalled so you dont have to worry about whether or not it was fixed correctly.

I have been involved in a half dozen wrecks in my life, only 1 was mine. This honestly doesn't look that bad. I have seen quite a bit worse and they didn't total them. I am sure newer vehicles are probably even easier to work on than the older ones too. My last wreck was back in 2000 when I rear ended a stalled truck parked on a roadway doing 35mph. I didn't even have time to realize what happened. The car in front of me slowed down, but I didn't know why, so I looked to see if I was clear to change lanes and driving my old '98 Ram without any safety sensors I took longer than I should have making sure I had a clear lane next to me. As I look back forward the car in front of me had changed lanes and there was a stalled truck sitting there. They said that when I hit him it pushed his hitch down into the pavement and left a trench over 80 feet long. The guys were in construction and the had a ladder rack in the back and the ladder flew over the top of my truck when I hit them. I remember one of them had a fractured pelvis and the other a broken collar bone. Amazingly, my airbag didn't deploy and I only got a bump on the head. After getting checked I headed to the body shop and found out that it had pushed my brush guard into the radiator and intercooler and folded over the nose of the frame rails. They had to replace hood, fenders and doors as well as a bunch of other stuff. The truck still ran though. They fixed it all up and I still have it to this day with over 200k miles on it.

The important part is them paying you for the loss of value when you trade it. Having a wrecked title is worth thousands.

I think I was lucky in part because the guy I hit was in a half ton truck that probably weighed just over half what mine did, so the stop wasn't so bad for me.

I also had a '96 TransAm that a drunk woman t-boned and both airbags deployed and the doors, windshield, fenders and entire front were trashed. She impacted me in line with the front wheel and I remember see the window shatter in slow motion. Again, they fixed it right up and a few months later I traded it for a new one. I didn't think there was any way that was salvageable. It looked horrendous.

It's insane how many people are driving around in Houston with fake paper tags, no drivers license and no insurance!

Glad you are OK and I feel your double-pain: your baby, and drivers without insurance. They should be locked up, period.
I am not in the car repair business but I really can't understand why this would be totaled. Looks like they are very quick on totaling vehicles now days.

Its not so much the body panel damage that is the issue, its all the electronics involved. And the cost of the parts. Collision center manager ballparked the damage at around $25k.

And truthfully, I'd much rather that the vehicle be repaired (correctly) and returned. I bought it new at a steep discount and with a very low interest rate. I would not be able to do the same now (even with Z-plan pricing). Not to mention all the money I put into that truck with aftermarket parts, money that I won't get back if they total it.

Come on. We gotta see the footage.
Ask and ye shall receive. The full length video is over a minute long, this is a short clip in slow motion. No, spongebob is not edited into this. He was a magnet attached to the back of the other dude's car that got dislodged on impact.
