As the subject says - out of the blue, my passenger's seat back started rattling when unoccupied. It was perfectly fine a few days ago. It is quite possible that my wife moved the seat front/back/up/down a hair, I don't know.

Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks.

Check the seat belt and make sure it's not twisted and rattling against the B-pillar. Both my wife and daughter have this uncanny knack for flipping the belt around when they get out causing it to rattle against the pillar.

Another source of a minor yet annoying rattle on the passenger side is actually coming from the front door. The window switch assembly will occasionally rattle when driving on surface streets. To see if it's this, open the door and stick your ear by the speaker grill and lightly hit the bottom of the door directly under the switch/door pull. If you hear the rattle in the speaker grill you will need to pull the door card off and use some electrical or Tesa tape and wrap it around the switch assembly where it clicks into the door card.

Under the passenger seat there is a harness connector in front of the lumbar pump that can rattle. Use a zip tie to pull the wire harness up off the floor a lttle bit. This puts just enough pressure on the clip assembly so it won't rattle.

The other two sources of door rattles I have found are inside the passenger door and the plastic trim at the mirror mount covers at the top corners of the door cards. Inside the passenger door there is a module just under the speaker that can rattle against the door. Shove some foam between it and the door. If the black triangular covers for the mirror mounts are rattling (very common issue), gently remove them and apply Tesa tape across the slots on the door where the clips mount to then reinstall the covers to eliminate the rattle.

Thanks Bret for offering all these options. It is definitely, 100%, the seat back. I held it firm while driving and it stopped.

This is a super helpful post. I've had an annoying subtle, thud-like rattle for the past few weeks that's driving me crazy. It happens at random over slight imperfections, and I've been unable to track it down to date. I will definitely look into a few of your suggestions! How did you even find all of these out?

Hello FoMoCo.
Thank you but what for, so you can refer me to a local dealer? I can do that on my own and believe me, leaving the vehicle at the dealer for days or weeks is out of the questions.

I've been getting this too lately. I'll try the suggestions above and hope that helps. I thought it was just something left in a door pocket rolling around. But checked and nope....

Hmm.. Try slightly changing the seat back angle position to see if that helps.

The deep thunk rattle especially when there's a bass-note hit is likely the module in the passenger door. As for finding these, I hate rattles, they drive me nuts. So it's not uncommon to find me out on a Saturday with a beer in one hand and climbing around in the truck banging on this or that hunting down a rattle to find out where it's coming from.

This is probably the only time of year I'm be jealous of your Texas weather. Our winter up here in NJ has been pretty mild, but it's still no fun hanging around outside hunting rattles with a beer in the 40s-50s. Thanks for your efforts! :ROFLMAO:

I have this exact same rattle happening in the passenger seat. Had the dealership look at it while the truck was in for an oil change. They confirmed the noise and the service rep said "oh yeah, I can hear that all the way out here" when he was standing outside of the truck and I shook the passenger seat to replicate the sound. When I picked the truck up I was told that they looked at the seat and everything was tight. They went out to another truck on the lot and it had the same rattle so the chalked it up to "just how it is" and said there is nothing they can do. Now I guess it is on me to figure out what is loose. My temporary fix is shoving a sweatshirt between the console and the passenger seat to keep it from shaking when unoccupied.

This started happening to my 23 last week. Not sure why the heck it's doing, but it's annoying as hell!
