I was thinking about my 2022 which has the auto start and stop deleted from the factory due to the parts shortages. Are the starters different in these trucks than the ones that didn't have the deletion? What parts are different? Theoretically, if I shut off the car at every stop just like a normal F150, would that be somehow a different level of wear compared to a start/stop equipped F150?

I never saw a solid answer, but I’ve been operating under the assumption the constrained part was the supplemental electric transmission fluid pump, used to keep up line pressure during start/stop operation, because Ford was having issues getting replacement pumps to folks around the same time the deletion occurred. I’d be curious if anybody has an actual answer.

Oh very interesting if true. Between missing that, removing the rear blocks, and running board removal, my payload probably went up just about a whole Honda

I would say the starters are the same. Wouldn't make sense to have 2 different starters money wise.

I've read that with auto start they had to improve the bearings inside the engine, like rod, journal, etc. As well as a beefed up starter. Nice to have all the durability upgrades but no auto start stop.

There was a solid answer. Only 1 part number for F150 starter.

The never got a solid answer part referred to which part was constrained. But you’re correct, there’s only one starter, so that indicates that didn’t change.

If that’s case stated, what engine? PowerBoost has the start/stop built in already with no option for removal and uses 3.5L engine.

I think any of us who have had to crawl under a vehicle and replace a starter (sometimes it’s easy, sometimes it’s a nightmare) have to be concerned with the idea of constantly cycling the starter.

I know I was…

Ford (in a panic) offered the “option” of A.S.S. Delete 3-months after I ordered my truck & 1-month after my 1st of 9 promised “build dates”.

But they told me I was too far along in the process (FIVE months before they built my truck) to make any changes.

Between everything I’ve read about all the design changes they made to account for the constant cycling of the starter and the ESP… I’m not too worried about it. And I have found it to be useful in city driving. I really don’t know how much extra gas mileage I’m actually getting but it must have some impact.

If you don't have A.S.S. but DO have the upgraded starter... you're not likely to ever be crawling under your F150 to replace the starter.

I think/heard the battery is different.
I’m thinking there is some truth to this. I was looking under the hood the other day and noticed the battery tray is larger than the battery that was installed.

The battery tray was designed to accommodate different size batteries based on powertrain configuration and options. When the tray was designed for the gen14 trucks in 2021 a diesel was available and the tray will accommodate the large H8 battery necessary for that engine. Currently in the 22 and 23 models Ford has chose to continue using the same tray, thus the additional real estate. Generally the XL / XLT Trucks are equipped with an H6 battery and all Lariat and above are equipped with an H7 battery whether the truck a.s.s. or there all the same batteries. :)
