Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit - updated with information

That’s interesting. I had no idea. I will say in my experience it works great. They have a piece of software that you download kinda like a driver that shows it as a passthru device. I guess buyer beware but Ford could also be doing that cause they’d rather you buy their overpriced VCM. Who knows ?‍

I don’t know when exactly, but I looked about 8 weeks ago and it was on there and now it is not

I wonder if theres a forscan setting to keep them all ON, my father in law's lexus stays on (different vehicle i know) lol

Let me verify again when I do the remote start I know for sure the heater turns off for the blower fan.

Pretty sure my blower goes back to last setting but my heated seats stay on

Ah! So i was worried about my vehicle not having power telescoping controls. It's possible to just unbolt that section and put my original wiper control back?

I didnt notice an answer to this question, but AFAIK this is the answer. I have a new SCCM ready to install, but it did not come with the power telescoping controls and the wiper control stick is different than what my truck will have (when it comes in). It appears that you just unbolt those from your stock SCCM and put them on your new one, then you shouldnt have to make any Forscan changes. Same idea as swapping out your steering wheel buttons from your stock wheel to your new one when you swap steering wheels.

I might try bench testing the steering wheel with a 12VDC supply and this brick to see if i can make it work.

I'm thinking the current draw will be less than 5A

Not sure that'll work for you because the constant 12V sits on the back side of the SCCM and the SCCM does the relay toggling when commanded to do so by the screen or hard button.

I don't think there is a direct path from a constant 12V source through the clockspring to the heated wheel wires. it all toggles through the SCCM

That was what I was looking at next, the turn stalk includes auto wipers. I see infotainment sells a kit to add auto wipers. That kit appears to contain the sensor, turn stalk, and wiring. I wouldnt need the turn stalk just a senor and what ever wiring my truck does not have....just not sure if a Lariat has the wiring in place already and would just add the sensor, or if the wiring is needed.

Snap off your plastic cover behind the rear view mirror. Mine had the sensor connector already up there. My trucks an XLT

I was going to run a macgyvered hot wire straight to the fuse box ?

I wonder how the SCCm knows what temperature the wheel is? I see there are temp settings in FORSCAN

You gotta put one of them race car coiled cords around your steering column for that to work.

Where’d you find that SCCM?
