My only complaint about the mode dial is that I don’t like the order of the modes.

I’d prefer if normal was position #1, and then moving clockwise eco or sport was next, then tow/haul, and THEN the various road/off road condition modes. The existing order annoys me because it’s a different order than the other vehicle I have such a mode dial on where normal *is* the furthest to one direction.

No. I do not. I like the nob. And i cannot imagine being upset about sitting in an adjustable seat in a climate controlled cabin, being perturbed i have to turn a dial.

The horrors.
Lol. Perturbed is taking it a bit far. I said disappointed, mainly because of how the previous Gen worked and my expectations coming from that model. IMO it was a better setup having the Drive Modes on the Gear shifter. And again, I did say I know…..Major problems. ;)

I have no issues either. Once I realized that all the performance modes (tow/haul, eco, sport) were to the left (counterclockwise) and all the environment modes (slippery, snow, sand/mud, rock) were to the right (clockwise) I found the selector to be a piece of cake to use.
Now I'm second guessing myself, I was thinking all the two wheel drive settings were to the right (clockwise) and four wheel drive were to the left (counter clockwise) on my truck. Like others have said I do wish it would stay in the last mode when you shut it off.

Having had my truck for 6 weeks it is the one thing that I am really disappointed about. (I know, major problems). The previous setup with the drive mode button on the gear shifter was so much quicker and smoother, why did they go this way of a Selection Knob that you have to turn sooo many times just to get to the Mode you want? e.g. Normal to Sport.

It would help quite a bit if you could change the order of the Modes that you prefer so you could keep the modes you use most together I.e. Normal then Sport or Normal then Eco etc next to each other.

anyone else feel this way?
I agree.

It would be nice if it stayed in the last selected mode (at least).

But... It may be a software update away if enough people complain.

I have no experience with the drive mode knob yet, I don't think it will bother me personally. But the Shifter knobs they put in some vehicles now piss me off I tell you h'wat. My dad has one in his maverick and its very unnatural feeling. I have to look down at it and go slow. Feels really stupid.

That breakdown works only if you have an XL or XLT because you don't have a 4A mode. If you have a Lariat or above, the Sport mode (left, counterclockwise) automatically shifts to 4A. So your left/right breakdown based on 2wd/4wd doesn't work for higher trims.

I haven't used all of the modes regularly to check the retention of the last-selected mode, but on mine, if I am in tow/haul or slippery, it does ask if I want to stay in that mode when I restart.

I agree with with the OP, but these are definitely #firstworldproblems

I agree with allow us to set default drive mode settings. Its not just F150, my wife's Escape Hybrid is say way, it always defaults to same mode.
Must be something about the carb certification. Same way ASS always defaults to ON.

I've also memorized the number of turns but much prefer the simple button on the column shifter in the previous gen - much easier and faster IMO. I'm also not a fan at all of sport mode defaulting to 4A. Wished there was a way to change that vs manually having to switch it back to 2wd.
I agree. In dry conditions the truck is quicker off the line in 2WD.

That explains it then. Regular cab here, highest I could get was a mid xlt. I didn't even realize until last night when I was playing around with the mode knob that you could also get 4x4 by pressing the corners around it. Shows how much I use the 4x4 I guess! I did know about it asking if I wanted to stay in a certain mode though. I tend to like sport mode with the traction control off when I'm in town in case I feel the need to waste some tire tread.

Thanks for being a good sport. :)

I was tempted to post yesterday that I agreed with you just so you weren't stranded on an island by yourself.

I didn't though. I was only tempted. It wouldn't have been true.

I must have some pilot DNA in me because I love all the tech and buttons and choices in this insane truck and often find myself doing a "pre-flight" before putting the truck in gear. In fact I complain that Ford hard-coded the CCD settings into the drive modes rather than allowing me to choose my suspension preferences separate from my transmission strategy. Arghhhh ?

Anyways, again, thanks for not having thin skin.

I agree, it would be nice to be able to customize order. I don't own a trailer, so having tow/haul in the middle kind of annoys me. But coming from an 07 xlt, I'll take it as is haha

If someone can make a device that forces the system to remember you last A.S.S. mode, maybe someone can make a similar device for “Drive Mode”.

I appreciate that. It’s all good though. People use their trucks for different things and in different ways and how I’m using my truck is probably against the norm………and as we know, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and they’re all different!
