Anti-Theft Armed Indicator

Just realized last night, when I did my BlueCruise update, a couple flies got into my truck while I had the windows down. They didn't get out when I locked the doors, which I did with the door switch. About 20 minutes later, the alarm was going off as the flies set off the interior sensor. After a few attempts, had to disable the interior sensors for a day as I couldn't get the flies out of the truck.

I think you will find that the only way the alarm is set is using the flob. The button on the door handle and key pad do not arm the alarm. I use the android widget which shows me when the alarm is on and that is only when I use the flob to lock the truck. See page 111 in the manual.

I'm not sure how you determined that for your vehicles.

Do note that the Widget doesn't automatically refresh, if that is what you were using to determine. You have to request a manual refresh from the Menu button in the upper right.

For mine, it definitely DOES arm the Alarm whether used FOB to lock, or Door Keypad (simultaneous pressing of bottom two key pad buttons) or black button on door handle (with Fob in pocket).

I have a 2022 KR PB.

I verified using the Ford Widget (which shows both Lock status and Alarm status). I refreshed between each test to get a verified unlocked. Then proceeding to test each scenario.

Thanks for your replies. Seems like such an obvious omission for the keyless handle buttons and number pad not to arm the alarm. The benefit of both locking/unlocking options is that the fob never has to be used. Seems odd that I still have to reach into my pocket to arm the alarm. First world problems, yes, but mildly frustrating ones...

I agree, having to use the flob to arm the alarm is not a big deal. One would think that if you use any door locking method, it would set the alarm. Only think I can thing of is the flob may have something to do with programing and modules and ?????.

This blows my mind. I always assumed no matter how I locked it, it armed it.

This has to be one of the dumbest moves.

I thought the same , no matter how it was locked it was armed. But the android widget Kennelh programed shows otherwise.

Found this in the Service Manual. To me it sounds like the Perimeter Alarm and the internal motion sensors activate no matter how the truck is locked.

Arming The Perimeter Alarm


The perimeter alarm is ready to arm anytime the ignition is off. The perimeter alarm pre-arms when any of the following occur:

• Pressing the lock button on a RKE transmitter
• Pressing the door lock control switch to the lock position with a front door open, and then closing the door
• Pressing the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons simultaneously on the keyless entry keypad (if equipped)
• Locking the vehicle with the passive entry feature (if equipped)

Once the system is pre-armed, there is a 20-second countdown before the perimeter alarm is armed. Each entry point to the vehicle (hood and doors) is armed separately and must be closed before that entry point begins the 20-second countdown to become armed. If all entry points are closed, the turn signals flash upon locking indicating that all entry points are entering the 20-second countdown.


Intrusion Sensor


The intrusion sensor is powered at all times and is monitored by the BCM . When the perimeter alarm is armed, the intrusion sensor monitors the passenger compartment for movement and, if movement is detected, it sends a signal to the BCM .


The inclination sensor is part of the intrusion sensor and is powered and monitored by the BCM at all times. When the perimeter alarm is armed, the inclination sensor monitors the vehicle for tilt or inclination from events such as significant cargo removal or addition, jacking up a wheel assembly, loading onto a tow truck, or suspension modifications causing significant front/rear ride height differences. If sufficient tilt is detected, the inclination sensor sends a signal to the BCM .


When the intrusion sensor is replaced, the LIN New Module Initialization procedure with the BCM must be carried out using a diagnostic scan tool.

Performed a little test today. I can tell you that it arms no matter which way you lock the doors. Fob, outside button, or just hit the lock button when you exit the truck. There is a slight delay before it arms. There is motion detection in the truck and if it detects any movement when armed, the alarm goes off (it's the little eye above the rear-view mirror). You can disable that feature in the settings. If you are with the outside or transmitter and try to unlock the doors from the inside the screen will tell you that the ignition is disabled.

Glad to hear the User Manual is wrong on this one! Thank you for clarifying! Still wish they had a flashing light somerhere in the truck when armed, as it was also a good visual indicator of my old truck being locked. I know I could set the mirrors to auto-fold, but that seems overkill in most parking situations.

Regarding the Android Widget, can somebody please confirm if the red bell indicates the alarm is set or not set? I looked through everything on the app and can't find info on the specific icons. Thanks!

This is showing that the alarm is NOT set. Bell should be green, is the way I understand it.

Also, all you people have Lariat and above with interior motion sensor. I have a XLT and do not have the interior sensors. Will run a test on the truck tomorrow and see.

I have made a mistake for the first time in my life , again.

I tested all forms of locking my truck and found no matter how it is locked, the alarm IS set.

I tested locking the truck with;
Inside electric door lock button
Inside manual door lock button (old style )
Outside button on door handle
Outside keypad
Key Flob
Ford Pass

All of the above set the alarm.

Yes, pg 133 in Owner's Manual.

You can set it On or Off or Ask on Exit.

Ask on Exit will ask if you want to Arm the Interior Motion Sensor, if you ignore the prompt, I believe the default is to Arm the motion sensor. But before exiting you can answer the prompt and select No (for the times you are leaving people in the truck but locking it.

Exactly what BLoflin said above is correct. I just wanted to add that the motion sensor works well. I didn't know it existed until I locked my dog in the truck to drop my daughter off at daycare real quick, and the alarm went off 30 seconds after walking away from the truck. The "ask to arm" feature is great. I'll give Ford credit for that much.

I don't ever use the FOB. I have keyless entry without the fob and I have a way to lock the truck when I get out without the FOB. I haven't used the FOB to unlock or unlock my trucks in almost 5 years. Same with my wife's cars. they have the lock buttons on the handles.

I would rather just never take the FOB out of my pocket. I think it's crazy to want to pull it out as long as you can unlock it by putting your hand on the handle (With the fob near by) and locking it with the black button on the handle (with the fob near by).

To each their own and it appears it doesn't matter anyways as the alarm is armed no matter how you lock it

It turns out you can order one from Ford. But you also have to get a module which will drive that flashing light and performs some other functions. I was also told that if your truck already has a bunch of the functions provided by the necessary module that there may be issues with that new module.

I chose not to mess with trying to get my flashing LED.

Thanks for the info. I think it's even more frustrating that we now know the reason Ford doesn't include an LED indicator standard. How ******* cheap can these people be?
