I just read a new article this morning coming out of Texas about F150's being targeted by thives stealing tailgates and taillight housing ond of course the catylitic converters. One of the victims that had his taillights stolen told the reporter he didn't think it was that big of a deal until found out each assembly was 1100.00. Anybody else hear about this?

And it takes only 30 seconds to take the tails. Maybe another minute for the cats.

You can get a tailgate lock that goes around the passengers side pivot point on the tailgate.

If they can't open the tailgate they can't take the tail lights, so lock you truck.

Cool. Do you know if the lock works with the power tailgate?

I remember my dad's F150 had the tailgate stolen twice growing up in Houston. After the 2nd time he put some sort of lock on it. When they couldn't steal it for a 3rd time they keyed the whole truck ?

The tailgate lock does not interfere with power tailgate.
On my 2021 Powerboost, I added the tailgate lock when I had the sprayin bedliner done. (they convinced me to)

If I'm not mistaken, it's now a Ford option for the 2022?

You can also exchange the taillight screws with security screws. At least it will thwart the jackass that's just carrying the necessary screw driver. :)

What lock did you install? I though the tailgate locked with the door locks

It's a secondary lock that prohibits removing the tailgate the traditional method. But yes, the theif would first have to overcome the locked tailgate first.

Thanks. That clears things up a little. Tailgate theft is not new. Thieves have been stealing them for years. All makes. But I thought that the tailgate had to be unlocked and down to steal it and that the easiest targets were tailgates left down and unattended. So, just to confirm, is your tailgate reasonably safe without extra measures if it’s kept up and locked?

Thanks every little bit to make more difficult helps
I hate thieves with a fiery passion
I figure that by the time the taillight thief had to thwart the tailgate lock to lower it, and then the second lock to remove it, and then the security screws in the light itself..... He'll be so pizzed at me that he'll just light the truck on fire and burn it to the ground. ??

I'll just order a 2023.

I don’t worry about it.The reason being the tailgate locks when doors are locked and if they can get the tailgate open when it is locked they are getting it no matter what.If it slows them down with the extra lock you put on the tailgate is probably already damaged so you will have to get it fixed.
