Agreed. Plus, they really don't have the time for additional forensics. The backlog of Repair Orders is staggering. It's a long shot, but I'll ask the Service Dept. today if they still have my old part. If so, maybe they'll give it to me and then I could send to you.I don't know if what he said is 100% accurate, or if he actually disassembled the plastic housing and verified REALLY what is failing in this sudden rash of leaky exhaust heat exchangers.
Personally I think it feels like a batch issue. Although the design might be so vulnerable that all batches can eventually fail?
And I personally don't believe technicians are being very invasive about getting to the root cause. They have zero incentive to. They are likely following typical warranty claim protocols and simply identifying the problem as a faulty component and replacing it. Afterall, that's all they will be paid to do.
Having said that, I would LOVE to get my hands on just one of the failed heat exchangers. I'm almost nerd enough to buy one, but that would be so unfair to one of my Powerboost brothers who is without his truck.
