I now have some nighttime driving experience in my 2021. All I can say is that the LED headlamps on the new XLT are a huge improvement over the former halogen lamps. I’m not sure about the new halogens and if they are better than the previous gen, but I would hope so. I was not a fan of the older halogen lamps.
I’m rural and most of my commuting and half of my personal time driving is in the dark.
I can appreciate that many want to see farther in the dark, but some of us out there are a bit sensitive to lasers burning our retinas out by those that have a desire to see daylight into the next county.
I seldom use high beams and I tend to focus beyond the effective lighting—looking for sparkly eyeballs of deer, raccoons, and those damned pesky hogs that are capable of decommissioning my vehicles.
Bright headlights of the newer cars, or modified vehicles coming at me are a distraction and blinding.
I’m in no way “dissing” those that this lighting appeals to, but waaay too many people have no idea how to dim their lights for oncoming traffic, or to dim them when coming up behind another.
I run sealed beam halogen on both the hot rods and my daily k1500 and they are nearly as effective as the halogens in the Trailblazer and Ranger.
I do however, really like the brightness of the LED DRLs only because I think all cars should have some sort of DRL. Helps to keep others from darting in front of you.
If the halogens on my upcoming XLT are as effective as those on the Ranger or even the sealed beams of my K1500, I’ll be just with them.
