Work surface console won't stay open

Does anyone else have the work surface center console and find it doesn't stay open? Mine BARELY stays open as long as the truck is on flat and level ground, if it's on any sort of downward incline it will slam shut and I have to hold it open. Pretty much the same if I'm in motion. Is mine defective?

Do the nickel trick. Some do a double nickel. If two is good, then four has to be better. I chose to do the double double nickel trick. Since you have the work console do the double double. It's one nickel under each leg of the springs. Don't expect perfection, but this trick does pretty good.

There are many videos about this trick. Here's just one:

Many thanks. Can't believe we need to do this on a modern vehicle that costs as much as it does (sticker on mine was $93.6K!!!). As if no Ford employee was able to catch this.
Based on the build quality, I would say that most employees assembling these trucks don’t give a damn about the quality leaving the plants.

good thing they all got raises…

I don’t believe the assembly line employee has much to do with the spring design specs. My 2021 job1 stays open.

Mine took a nickel and a penny per spring. 12 cents and it stays open. Dumb but it is what it is.

Mine does the same on my 21 Lariat. Dealer says he will order a part and see... I told him to just put a shim under the spring leg but looked at me as was from mars.

Really shouldn’t have to do the “nickel” trick … build quality and fit sucks for the money that’s paid for these trucks.

For those discovering this now. This was an issue on my 2015 Platinum also. So this has been a long-standing issue that Ford hasn't addressed.

I guess if you feel like splurging on an expensive truck, a person could use a quarter instead of a nickel. Remember, you get what you pay for - use a quarter, the warrantee on the quarter is longer. (For anyone who takes posts serious, I'm kidding here - heck, I guess a penny would work too). I will try this and will use whatever coins is in my tray.
