Have my truck coming in early January and that's the start of the worst part of winter around here. Lots of snow, ice, slush, and vehicles in the ditch. I like the HDPP wheels that come with the winter packages from Ford, so I got the following quotes (in Canadian dollars) on 275/65R18 winter tires, TPMS, and rims:

General Grabber Arctic - $2226.95
Dunlop Winter Maxx SJ8 - $2562.95
Firestone Winterforce - $2596.96
Michelin X-Ice Snow - $2638.95
Bridgestone Blizzak - $2669.00

I've read plenty of good reviews on the Grabbers. Just wondering if any of the other options are worth upgrading to.

Blizzaks are the gold standard, and worth the extra 400 bucks in my opinion. It's a more snow-and-ice specific tread design. I ran them on my Audi and my Ridgeline.

The X-Ice would be my choice here in Connecticut, followed by Blizzak. Heavy snow is rare, but plenty of ice, slush, wet, and dry pavement. General a distant 3rd, and I would not even bother with the others. Suggestion, make sure they can actually get the tires.

Nokian makes amazing snow tire. I just took my 22 Lariat up to the mountains last weekend. The brand new stock wrangler tires were ok but I will definitely be getting some Nokians either later this season or next season. My runner up would be Blizzaks for sure.

Thanks for the input. I did more research and compared the strengths of the Blizzaks to the Michelins for where I live, and how the Grabbers perform in comparison. I'll be going with the Michelins.

My wife had a bad experience with the X-Ices on her car around that time after this thread, so I ended up going with the Grabbers, of all things. No regrets, they work beautifully.

I know it's not the answer you're looking for. Best of luck in your search.

Nobody ever mentions these but ive been running Goodyear Wintercommand in 22s between my truck and my Expedition for the last few winters. Find them to be the most reliable and predictable winter tire I've run.

Love these but expensive

They are really soft and the best IMO. I had these on a rear wheel drive lowered BMW and was plowing snow and driving everywhere in deep snow and ice road with no problems.

I put the Generals on last year. We did not have much of a winter but they road nice. Also, the Generals are XL rated. I paid 200 each from Tire Rack, 100 to have them mounted and balanced. I picked up four rims from a 2018 for 175 total.
