A bit of a nightmare scenario.

About a week ago, I bought a 2021 Screw Lariat, 3.5 Ecoboost, 35,000 miles. Built in Michigan, originally sold in Canada. The dealer I purchased from is about six hours away from me. Truck had good service history via Carfax showing the factory recommended oil change intervals were completed (I know most of us would do them even more often), and supposedly the dealer I purchased from did a 128 point inspection that revealed no issues.

Last night, I started hearing a squeaking coming from the engine. Immediately suspected a serpentine belt, but odd because I popped the hood and it didn't look worn at all. I take it into a mechanic friend of mine and he finds that the squeaking is coming from the serpentine belt, but caused by a bad water pump. Then he uncovers a host of other issues and immediately recommended I take it to Ford and try getting them to pay for it. His guy said it looks like a "well used" 35k.

Fortunately, I bought the PremiumCare ESP with the truck. Will my local dealer and Ford take care of me? Also, would this be ESP or powertrain warranty? Potentially head gasket issue is the big concern, although the Ford dealer said if its just oil seepage, Ford won't do anything with it, and they can't get it in for another week or so.

The only modification that the truck has is a leveling kit, which shouldn't have any influence on these engine issues as far as I'm aware.

I would appreciate all inputs, experience, and advice. TIA!

at 35,000, shouldn't this be factory warranty, rather than ESP?

Head gasket issues aren't very common on the 3.5 Ecoboost. Not for any of the 3 generations. I'm a bit sceptical of that diagnosis, to be honest.

Hopefully the Powertrain/ESP warranty will be applicable for most of what is on that ticket.

If I was still in the three year window, almost certainly. But the vehicle is about four years old now.

Hopefully. I'm a bit worried about the engine needing all of this work at this stage. Water pump at 35k? Crazy.

But my mechanic friend also said get it all done, and after that he thinks its a solid 150k mile engine going forward. Based on the CarFax, I suspect that it did sit for many months between its last use and my purchase. So maybe that explains these issues as much as anything else.

Isn’t most of that under the drivetrain warranty. 5 year 60k?
