I’m going to be on the lookout during Black Friday for a sale on a whipple stage 1r. (Not going with 2 because I don’t want much of a whine and don’t want to push the limit of the engine internals & trans)

What other mods would you deem essential and/or helpful? I was looking at getting a deep trans pan to help with cooler operating temps. I read in a few places that high flow cats were a necessity also but wanted to check with the experts on the forum to double check.
Also with those high flow cats…how would that effect sound? I have a corsa sport exhaust on my truck now and love it. Just didn’t know if it would change much or potentially allow for there to be some in cab drone.
thanks in advance!

I’m interested in finding out too. I have a new STX with the whipple. It only has 400 miles so I’m still breaking it in, but looking to add mods soon.

Maybe Terry @beefcake could chime in. I would message him directly but figured it would be better for more people to see. Gonna be ordering from them when the time comes

New iron rear diff cover, new gear oil. Ford Racing or Spicer. You should already have the 9.75 rear?
Whipple will make the rear hotter. This would help.

I would also think a good 180 T-stat, to help the cooling system stay ahead. I think stock is 190-195.
For high flow cats, get the longtube header kit from stainless works? With a whipple this is good for 50+ hp and 40tq easily, plus you get (2) 3" high flow cats. Engine will run better/cooler with longtubes/better exhaust. full race radiator, cobb radiator cover.

New brakes or better? :)

there is nothing you "have to have" really comes down to how your driving the truck and your gaals.

headers with higher flowing cats won't hurt anything, other than $$. they will let the truck breath more and hold up to higher temps.

your always welcome to reach out with any questions

I’m also considering a Whipple. Do they actually go on sale for Black Friday?

Ford Performance fender badges and a Whipple bumper sticker for the HP gains. Or, if you're going sleeper mode, just the FP door sill plates

But really, I would look at a brake upgrade and maybe check the speed rating on your tires (if you plan on testing the upper speeds)

If you are serious about running the truck, the real question is, will you remain on pump gas/stock fueling system? The 24's are still locked for now, so Whipple tunes are about all that is available. The deep sump pan WILL NOT change your trans temps, I am running a PPE pan. It DOES give you more capacity (PPE 1.75qts) which is always a good thing.

I would get a good set of traction bars and a front diff brace. Repeated launches in 4H will put stress on the drive train. Replace the stock shocks, they are crap. I would spend your money on a modified trans to hold the power. That is the weak link. Stock trans can hold Stage 1 Whipple power levels but you start turning up the boost and adding fuel, you can overcome the stock drive train eventually. Service the trans too! If you are making hits, I would change fluid out more regularly to help the trans live a longer life.

You need some decent tires too. I run Atturo DR850 Drag Radials for the strip. I got a good price on them and they hook pretty decent. I only run DR's on drag runs. I don't run mine around town.

These trucks are a hoot with a Whipple, but you WILL wear out more parts sooner if you really use the power it is capable of. Makes daily driving so much more fun.

I was going to run the stage 1r but potentially run a stage 1 tune so those injectors aren’t maxed out…that make sense? I also was going to go with the 1r because I was worried about the trans. I’m used to modding diesels and that was always the first thing to go was the trans, and I definitely don’t want to have to deal with that.
Also speaking about tunes…I’m running Livernois stock tunes right now. Should I get them to tune it or should I do the whipple tune?

As far as goals for the truck, I’m just looking to play on the street with some of the chargers and such. It’ll probably never get ran at the track, ever.
Lastly, I did read somewhere on here where someone did a deep trans pan and it cooled the temps like 20 degrees or so. Maybe I read the post wrong?
Thanks guys!
