What happens when ?

I was just wondering what happens when the power tailgate fails to open and your truck has a hard bed cover installed, now what ?

These new features are nice but as you all know these new features do break do break down.

There is plenty on you tube with the gen 13 actuators not working but none of them with a hard cover on them. Without the cover it’s fairly simple you just remove the panel on the inside of the tailgate in manually release the tailgate.

I would hate to damage a tonneau cover to access inside of tailgate to repair..

I don't have an answer but have you tried both the key fob and the button on the dash? I would also check to see if there is possibly a bad fuse for that circuit.

I didn't realize that one has to first open the tailgate to open a hard tonneau cover; thought a hard cover had a separate latching system and could be opened with tailgate closed?

My bed cover has to open first to open the tailgate, but I think some of the roll out type hard cover have a latch inside the bed that you have to drop the tailgate first to get access.

Mine is a very common hard tri fold cover by Bakflip (mx4).

part of the security feature is the latch is on the inside so tailgate must be opened to have access to it.

that’s why my concern if tailgate will not open

I guess the same thing that would happen with any truck that has a locking tailgate that fails….. Wouldn’t overthink it for now.

I could have sworn i heard something not too long ago about there being a manual release cable for it but NO idea where.
