It's been a weekend of truck stuff. This morning I fixed another of Fords blunders.
A. Not having dark lugs on dark wheels
B. Ford capped lugs just suck anyway.
PhotoCollage_1675708307781.jpg
Have a link for the lugs?

Got some overlays a while back and finally got around to putting them on today. I definitely didn't take the time I should have to get them perfect but not too bad for now.

The 1 minute modification. 100% plug and play puddle light. If you get bored with it, 1 min and you are back to OEM.

Last week I took delivery of my 2023 F-150 4x4 XLT 302A 157wb 3.5L Ecoboost Sport Package. I was able to use the time spent waiting for my vehicle to decide on the accessories I would add. This forum was very helpful in navigating the many options, so I thought I would pay it forward:

AMP Research Bedstep
Although I am a ninja, I wanted a bed step to help normal people access the bed. But:
1. I didn't want the OEM tailgate step because it can't be used with tailgate closed, it can't be used when towing and it seems too cumbersome to deploy.
2. I didn't want a step directly behind the bumper because it can't be used with the tailgate open.

This led me to the AMP Research Bedstep. $290 is shamefully expensive. Nevertheless, I plan to have my truck for 15 years, and I'm mid-forties, so I paid up for the step.

The step itself is excellent. Looks factory. Very well made and heavy duty. Large surface area. Most importantly, the deploy/retract action is perfect and it's in the absolute ideal spot for stepping into the bed. Love it.

Install took about an hour. I definitely agree with others who say the install instructions are horrible, but thanks to the others who have gone before me, it was pretty easy.
The last picture in this post from @mazeppa was the key to figuring out the assembly:
https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/what-did-you-do-to-your-f-150-today.1314/post-261076

I have some pictures from the assembly process if anyone is still stuck after seeing the link above.

I read that there can be lengthy shipping delays when ordering directly from AMP Research, so I purchased from Real Truck after calling to confirm they had it in the warehouse. It shipped next day and arrived 3 days later:
https://realtruck.com/p/amp-research-bed-step/amp-75328-01a/

EDIT: I see that since placing my order 7 days ago, AMP Research has increased the Bedstep price from $290 to $309!!

Deploy/Retract:

Line-X Premium
I called two locations, Ft Collins and Boulder. Ft Collins quoted $599 for standard and $699 for premium. Boulder quoted $615 for standard and $775 (!!) for premium.

I went with Boulder because the guy has been doing it 25 years, has flawless reviews and was clearly more knowledgeable than Ft Collins.

Tailgate Removal
Regarding the tailgate issue, know this. Your F-150 came with tailgate plugs in the glove box. If your tailgate is removed, these need to be inserted to avoid any sort of problems with back up assist and/or other features. The Line-X guys did this and everything is working fine.

Bed Bolts
The Line-X guy said his standard procedure is to remove the bed bolts. However, I didn't want Line-X employees loosening the bed, plus I've read that the bed bolts are one time torque bolts. The Line-X guy said he has spoken to Ford; he said something about the clips under the bed being the part that shouldn't be re-torqued, and he is able to remove/re-install the bolts correctly to avoid issues. Regardless, I wouldn't have it, so I asked him to just Line-X over the bolts. Looks better, and I really don't anticipate ever needing to remove the bed.

The Line-X premium looks great and I'm very happy with it.

Husky X-Act Contour Bed Mat
While I did the Line-X to protect the bed, I decided to add a bed mat to (1) protect my cargo from the abrasive Line-X and (2) help keep things from sliding around.

I considered the OEM mat, but went with Husky because of great reviews and lower price. The Husky bed mat is awesome. $108 on Amazon.

Husky X-Act Contour Floor Mats

I have fold-flat storage, so the correct floor mats are part number is 53468. Amazon had the best price ($145). These are great. Love them. They fit perfectly with the fold-flat storage.

Lomax Tri-Fold Hard Tonneau Cover
I scoured the earth to find the right tonneau cover for me. So many options, so many pros and cons of all. In the end, I narrowed it down to the BakFlip MX4 and the Lomax Tri-fold. The BakFlip had many reviews mentioning excessive water leaking from the rubber hinge areas, and the Lomax Tri-fold reviews were all very good, so I chose the Lomax. I went with the Black Urethane finish.

I paid $1,067 on sale, which seems absurd:
https://shop.agricover.com/product/lomax

I also seriously considered the Lomax Professional version. Compared to the standard Tri-fold, the Professional has some additional cross-bars that make it more sturdy and allow it to support additional weight. In the end, I decided against the Professional because:
1. It is only available in two finishes. Diamond Plate and Black Mist Diamond Plate. I don't like either option.
2. It weighs about 20% more than the standard version. I plan to remove it when I'm transporting bikes, so I'd prefer the lighter weight.
3. The Professional version does not make the cover more secure or more weather-tight, which are the two primary reasons I am buying a cover.
4. There are very limited reviews for the Professional.

I would probably like the Black Matte finish more than the the Black Urethane, but chose the Black Urethane because it is said to be a lot more durable than the Black Matte finish. Also, the edges of the Black Matte are bare aluminum (no black finish), whereas the edges of the Black Urethane do have finish. Finally, the Black Urethane supposedly adds heft and rigidity.

In the end, I think I chose the right cover. Very easy install and perfect fit for my 157wb. The Black Urethane looks really good; it looks almost exactly like the Line-X (though much more thin). The standard Tri-Fold is stable, secure and is pretty much exactly what I wanted. Removal is quick and easy.

I have not water tested it yet, but I know from reviews that it won't be perfectly water tight. It is supposedly very good at keeping water out, much better than most. But I expect a little water coming in at the tailgate. Also, based on what I see from the install, I anticipate some water at the front left and right corners, though this might be channeled away by the rails. I might add an OEM tailgate seal if water leakage is a big issue. I might also find a seal for the front corners of the bed if leakage occurs there. I will try to update this post in a couple weeks after it is water tested.

Husky Wheel Well Liners
My truck is Carbonized Gray, but even with that I just feel like the wheel well liners make the truck look so much better. Also, I wanted to keep the road muck off my suspension and under-body as much as possible.

I chose Husky over the OEM because they provide better coverage. They look better and protect more than the OEM liners. An added benefit is that they cost me about $75 less than OEM. The liners are great.

A couple very minor issues on install.
1. The passenger side liner was pressing into the rear shock by about 1/4" inch. I trimmed it in-place using a sharp box knife to get it away from the shock. Easy and flawless fix that looks factory.
2. On the driver side, the front christmas tree fastener will not snug as well as the others. It's holding the liner in-place just fine, but there is a little play. It seems like a non-issue, but if I ever suspect movement, I will just remove the plastic tree fastener and replace it with a 1/4" bolt and nut

I paid $104 on Amazon.

Boxlink
Added aftermarket. $45 from Amazon for the plates and cleats, which saves about $100 vs OEM.

These seem high quality, same as OEM honestly.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DTYC6X3?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

One note here. If you do this, you're going to want to get a 6mm-1.0 tap to cut the threads. Yes, the included hardware is self-tapping, but I wasn't going to risk having a bolt break-off and a weakened boxlink anchor-point on my $60K truck just to save $7. Tap:

Bull Ring Retractable Bed Tie-Downs
I want max bed utility, and these provide important tie-down points above the bed. These are awesome and look good. Install is the easiest thing you can possibly imagine.

$50 for four. Worth it.

I think I'm done at this point. I need to let my bank account recover. I might tint the front windows when Summer is here.

F-150 is a fantastic truck!

Same same cover as you, I've been happy with it. Also I experienced the exact same issue with 1 of the husky liners and they are working well. Wonderful looking f150. ?

I did the 'nickel'' mod for my center console armrest. It's better, but still feels too weighty and doesn't like to stay open.
Can you post some pictures please and how did you make it?
