Hi guys,

Anyone else get the optional weight scale for their truck? And then put in a levelling kit?
Had my truck in for service, because I got a notification from the truck, that said the taillight indicator for the scale, wasn’t functioning.

The dealership said the scale won’t work with the levelling kit, and the scale can’t be calibrated properly.

Anyone else run into this? Or know a way to fix it?

Thanks!

I have a leveling kit and OnBoard scales and 35's.

Had the same issue pop up.

Dealer had to recalibrate the sensor I believe. So it can be done.....

Thanks, my dealer said they don’t know how to. And only way to make the scales work is to remove the levelling

It was Heartland Ford in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

I also had to have a ride height sensor replaced.

Just got it back a week or so ago from having another sensor replaced to restore the tail light function of the scales. I still think I'm getting an incorrect reading on the dash display though.

Even empty is showing up using up approx 50% of my payload as I mentioned above.

Maybe your dealer is correct and we will have to remove our level lifts to get an accurate reading?

Let me know if you are able to find out anything more.

EDIT: Oops, I posted about the inaccurate reading in another thread:

I do have the scales and a 1.5" lift in the font. I have had no problem with it. No recalibration required.

Okay great, thank you for your input. At this point, the dealership said they’ll remove the levelling kit and give me my money back, that’s only fix I have hear of so far. With the scale system being so new, I’m full confident that someone will figure it out. It just needs to be re-calibrated. I’m not removing the levelling system, I like the look of it too much

Thanks, I assume you’ve had a load on and looked at the scale for the load information?
I got a message notification from my truck, that said the taillight load indicator wasn’t working. Took it to the dealership to get fixed and they told me the won’t work because of the levelling kit

Yes, during the summer I tow our travel trailer every other weekend.

That's why I ordered the OnBoard scales and Smart hitch in the first place.

But, they are proving to be inaccurate.

I had that same error light for the tail lights. That's why the replaced the sensor.

Afterwards, when I hooked up the trailer the tail lights indicators were bang on in the middle.

Yet I was still showing at max payload on the scale on the dash.

1,777lbs payload and wet tongue weight of the trailer is 850 ish. Dry hitch weight is 728 so ballparking wet weight a little here. 2 batteries, two 20lb propane tanks.

So, I should've had ballpark 900 lbs of payload left give or take.

Someone figured out that it is just the way the leveling arm moves in the back wheel well. I forget who now!
I don't know that I figured anything out, but I have posted on this in the past in relation to scales on the non-CCD vs CCD vehicles.

The CCD trucks use the smart shock to sense the ride height, so my "trick" wouldn't work there.

The non-CCD trucks with scales, use a potentiometer (I assume), connected via a small linkage to the rear suspension. As the suspension compresses, it rotates the sensor via said "small linkage". You can see this if you look.

Now.. on my Ram Rebel, the air suspension uses the same method as the non-CCD trucks to determine height. For those, they sell adjustable linkages, so that you can trick the air suspension into thinking that it is higher (or lower) than it is, at each corner, to affect the ride height. I would think the same method could be used with the non-CCD trucks that are leveled... get an adjustable linkage and shorten/lengthen as needed to make the sensor think it's at stock ride height.

My truck will be a non-CCD truck w/scales. If I remove the rear blocks (to lower the rear), I assume that I will have this problem. I plan to try some adjustable (or shorter) linkages to see if my "trick" will work on the Ford like it does on the RAM.
