Not really.

There was a suggestion that the lube in the hub at temps below freezing did not allow the hub to disengage properly.

Another was that due to the low temps, the system was trying to engage 4wd because it either needed to get warmed up internally or that it assumed slippery conditions when that cold.

A lot of people took their trucks in to their dealers and got the “can’t duplicate the condition” line. Some got their IWE replaced under warranty and had success.

Like many issues, it sounds like a PITA to get resolved. I took delivery of my 2023 302A February 6th. This issue did not appear until 2,200 miles on a 21-degree morning. Since it has warmed up in Tennessee, I have not felt this condition repeat itself.
You are right about this being a PITA. I have had my truck in the dealer twice for other things. Both times I had them look at this issue as well. Both times they can't replicate the noise, grinding that I experience. There is a definite problem that comes and goes with the IWE. I use to notice the issue when I was braking, but now I notice a vibration as I am accelerating. My truck is a 2021 with just less than 30,000 miles on it. My problem started a couple months ago. Even with the weather warming up, it is still doing it. Wish the dealer could diagnose it but tired of going back and forth.

Update: left front IWE replaced and it didn’t help. Grinding noise might be a little mitigated, pedal might be a little less buzzy, time will tell.

here’s how I can easily replicate it:
*start car, drive to a spot where there’s a good straightaway and you can get up to speed

*come to a complete stop

*engage 4H while stopped

*switch to 2H while stopped

*now drive 45+ MPH and it sounds, albeit somewhat faint, like I have a bad wheel bearing.

*toggling 4x4 while in motion rectifies that, and shifting while in motion anytime prevents that from happening in the first place I think.

I totally get that most people are in motion when engaging 4H/2H, but shouldn’t this be possible at a standstill as well? Seems like it’s struggling to engage / disengage when shifting at a standstill.

Kudos to my dealer for getting me in quickly, going for ridealongs, and attempting a fix all within a few days. They've been great to work with thus far, and that's huge!

I wonder if there's anything visible to note whether the stepper motor was fully rotated one end or another?

I can't think of anything visible.

Or I wonder if you just unplug them before the truck is started, or at any state that they seem to be successfully disengaged, then would it be impossible to get the vibration?

Of course I don't know what codes would throw, nor what happen if the transfer case shifted to 4WD, but the front hubs couldn't lock. I don't think there'd be physical interference that would damage anything.

Went to the snow yesterday, and switching in and out of 4x4 didn’t stop that 30+ MPH bad wheel bearing grinding noise. Switched truck off/on and all was well. I feel like this is software ?‍♂

I never had a problem until the software upgrade. Granted I have only had my truck for 3 weeks.

"Anyone experiencing an intermittent vibration or light grinding feeling through the accelerator pedal?"

I sure am. Started at about 3,000 mi. I've had it in to the dealer several times and they finally applied a TSB to try and fix the problem. Unfortunately the vibration is still there but now the transmission is shifting terribly and they cant seem to fix that! Am about to get it in for the second time to address the new problem with the transmission.

I've really come to regret my purchase of this junk truck.

Hey there! If you send over a DM with your VIN and Ford dealer info, I can look into your concerns on my end.

Update: I developed an additional vibration issue with my A/T3Ws which I wasn’t sure was relayed to the gas pedal vibration. Ultimately they swapped them for KO2s and the overall feel of the truck improved — less vibration in steering wheel, floor boards, etc. Unfortunately, my gas pedal is terrible. At least a tech will be able to sense it right away.

Some have suggested that this is a flaw with adjustable pedals. When I drop the pedals closest to the floor and continue holding the switch, pedal feels decent. When I let go, oscillating vibration returns. Anyone know if I can just get rid of the adjustable pedals or if this is the root of the problem? I’m waiting on corporate to give guidance to lt dealer before I go down a service rabbit hole… I’ve already spent an inordinate amount of time dealing with this.

Also, there is some play in the pedal. Can this be adjusted?

Does the vibration happen in all modes- tow , mud sand, sport , Normal
I’m never driving fast in off road modes so I don’t really know. It comes and goes and sometimes the difference seems to be restarting the vehicle and driving later on. I used to think low ambient temp made the difference but we are in the 50s and 60s now. I have an appointment next week and will continue trying to correlate it before then. Ready to move on from this issue! The truck is great otherwise!

My dealer put rubber washers between the pedal assembly and the firewall and it helps a fair amount. No solution I have seen yet. It's something rotatioal thats carrying through the firewall. Doesn't narrow it down by much. I'm leaning towards driveshaft and transmission or t case as those are the closest source. At this point who knows. Rubber washers make it livable.
Still living with this solution? Kuddos to your dealer for trying!

Still living with it. Vibration has slowly gone away and is now only present during high head wind or heavy snow.

How is this a thing? Truly. I’m sure they have mountains of diagnostics and service history data. Why can’t this be fixed?
