Used Mongoose

So I purchased a used mongoose plus. I’ve installed it on my computer using instructions from user manual, but I’m not getting the screen to register an account. Is that because it’s used or am I doing something wrong? It shows up as being activated, but if I hook it up to my truck, open up the “j2534 toolbox”, click on “diagnostics” tab and select “vehicle information”… nothing shows up. Should something show up like at least the VIN? Sorry…. I’m new to all this.

I’ll try to help, but It’s been a year since I installed my NEW Mongoose to my computer. The device does need “ACTIVATED” (is that what you’re calling “register an acct”?). I’m sure your first owner already activated it. So that should be NA for you. I’ve never opened up J2534 toolbox. So not sure what you are trying to do there. Just need to purchase a (now $120) subscription to FDRS via Motorcraftservice.com and download latest FDRS and hook up your battery power supply and you should be set to update.

I did get it activated on my computer, but after the activation in following along with the user manual for getting it set up… the manual shows a pop up where you put in your name and other info for registering an account. Maybe it only applies to the original owner

Right, and that has very likely been accomplished (I’d assume) by the item’s first owner. It’s basically a forced warranty registration.
