I was wondering if anyone has access to information from Ford in regards to my vehicle and TSB 22-2224. My truck has been in the shop for a few recalls and I came across this TSB that seems to address the shuddering issue that I've been having. Now my dealership says my PCM isn't included. Even though the TSB clearly states my truck is, so there it sits. They said they are waiting for a response from Ford...Can anyone run my VIN to see what the issue is?
Thanks!

+1 for results here. 17K on a 2021 Powerboost. Shudder starts after engine warms - most egregious on highway speeds - misfires on 2 is mostly seen, resulting in the transmission shudder. Have to lock out gear 8-10 just to not have my eggs scrambled. Shudder happens worse at inclines when load is detected, but the transmission does not shift down to compensate. Bought my own scanner to capture the live Power Balance so I could help the techs understand what I was experiencing. Dealership has the truck now - gave them permission to daily it or use it as a shuttle until they can get a re-create on the issue.

Attached my power balance screenshots. Pretty gnarly. Any and all advice is welcome.

First place to start is have your dealer update the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and then relearn the adaptive tables. There have been a few PCM updates released over the past year or so to address poor shifting and shudders. The most recent release was in May. Not a guaranteed fix, but it’s a good place to start. Then keep an eye out for future releases.

Thanks JEB! I appreciate that insight. I'll make sure to mention that as well. Where is the most trusted source for watching or finding release date/information?

For JEB and others, I also read that the MAP sensors in the Powerboost can become dirty more quickly because of the ignition start/stop behavior - something about not having enough air moving constantly. Not sure if that is true. Do the 2021 ecoboost models have mass airflow sensors too?

There are two ways to watch for updates, with one much more effective than the other. The easiest is to go to the NHTSA website, type in your VIN, and monitor the section on manufacturer communications. https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2021/FORD/F-150%20SUPER%20CREW%20HEV/PU%2FCC/2WD. In addition to recalls, you can find campaigns, TSBs and SSMs there.

But the most effective way to monitor changes is to get an FDRS license and a laptop adaptor that will communicate with your truck. I like the Mongoose Plus for Ford. A two-day license will run you about $50, the Mongoose runs for about $500 and the FDRS software is free. FDRS is what the dealers use to repair and update late-model Ford and Lincoln vehicles. Costly, but you’ll know what the dealers know. https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/ecu-module-programming-guide-using-fdrs.8249/

There is a third method related to the second. The ECU programming thread is vibrant and someone on there will have an active FDRS license. Post a request for someone to run your VIN in FDRS. You’ll shortly get a list of every module in your truck that has out of date software.

Appreciate the info flasch192 - will see what the dealer comes back with and I'll ensure they apply the TSB.

HunterTaylor - my dealership really wanted evidence, so thats why I did my own Power Balance tests. Hopefully that will drive a deeper search and ultimate application of the TSB. They could also find a number of other things that the TSB won't fix like off-gapped plugs, bad cops, dirty MAP sensors, broken EGR, or bad fuel pressure sensors. It could be a ton of crap - I hope the TSB is all I need. Thanks for starting the thread.

I am chatting with a independent ford tech friend of a friend to get an FDRS read that JEB suggested.

Crazy that it fixes some trucks and not others. My Powerboost got the TSB at 17,000 miles. I’m at 18,900 now. Running 87 against my better judgement to test it thoroughly. Shudder has not returned and mine was definitely noticeable before on 87.

Its crazy to spend $65,000 for a truck that runs so terrible.
