TSB 22-2150 fastboot error

I am going through the instructions and have the USB cable plugged in and it is giving me a fastboot error saying it can't communicate. Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it? I retried a bunch of times and it didn't work any of the times

just tried a different computer and multiple USB ports, same fastboot error

hmmm. it was the 2nd computer that did it for me with everything else the same.

first computer was a MacBook with windows installed so I thought maybe that was the problem. Second computer is a Dell desktop with windows 10. Both give fastboot error in spite of drivers being installed

I am ordering a new usb cable just on the off chance that the cable is bad. I have two of the micro usb adaptors and I tried both but that didn't help. I doubt it is the cable but worth a try because it is all going back to amazon anyway at this point

hmm. yeah, i lugged my dell desktop outside and got it working. anyone else have a computer you can try it on? don't give up. you're right there.
