The MIL in my truck lit up yesterday and is throwing code P050E. Truck is a PowerBoost and was built prior to 4/23/2021, so there's a good chance this TSB applies.

I've only had the truck for about 3 weeks and 800 miles. No software updates have been applied during this time. The first available appointment at nearby dealerships is 10 days from now. Is advisable to continue to drive the truck in the meantime?

Since the TSB references applying a software update, could this be fixed with a regular OTA update? FordPass doesn't show any updates have been applied, and I can't find anywhere to see what software version is running.

It is unclear how far Ford has designed OTA updates to go because they haven't really said. Hypothetically they could but there may be a designed limit to stop updates from changing certain functions. Maybe for security reasons or maybe because Ford wants to be careful about making big changes remotely.

In any case because this specific issue has a TSB for a dealer fix I will assume it is not one that can/will be fixed OTA. You should make an appointment.

Has anyone actually experienced the symptoms of this TSB/had this TSB/had this fixed by the dealership?

I'm not sure if the TSB is to fix the actual misfire, or if it's because the ECM software is too sensitive or something.

My local service advisor said the tech "applied the latest software update" to my ECM for my truck that's currently in for a P0306 misfire code, with actual misfiring.
