So I've been trying to buy one of two trucks for the last 3 weeks. I'm new to Ford (well, at least since a 1989 Mustang GT that I had until 1992). I know there are still all sorts of disruptions to building and shipping these trucks, but can't figure this dealer out.

My wishlist: Powerboost Full Hybrid, Max Tow, 7.2 Pro Power, Avalanche w/ BAP
If Lariat, LED projectors, Blue Cruise, and 360 Camera (so 502A) or Platinum 701A

Dealer keeps telling me that they have a Platinum coming in. "It will be in 11/16-11/22" "It is an any day thing" etc.

Meanwhile, I find that they have a build coming (Lariat) that is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. "That one is still in production and the Platinum will beat it here"
I've asked what they need from me to buy the Lariat. Crickets.

So I've been tracking both trucks. Here is where they are (at least on the ford site):

I have no idea why the Platinum has been sitting since the end of August, but is there any reason to suspect that it would get here before the Lariat? And why won't they let me buy the Lariat?

So strange to me, but maybe I'm missing something!
Pricing after discounts is within $2k so I can't imagine it has anything to do with that.

TIA

The Lariat will get to the dealer first... it is actually built and waiting to get on train to take it to the dealer... the platty is on a chip hold of some sorts and not yet completed.

At this is time of year shipping can be a problem... but should be there soon. chip hold.... man there was 2022 that sat in chip hold for a year...

The tracker sucks, so anything is possible with when they will arrive at the dealership.

The only issue you would see with the Lariat is if it is someone else's custom order. If you pull up the window sticker, if it is green is a customer order, if it is blue it is a dealer order.

Blue and it is listed on the dealer's website as "in stock" but I know that isn't trustworthy. Thanks for the info on the color diff; wondered why some windows stickers were green!

I'm not sure where you are at in Maryland, but if you are willing to take a drive check out Preston right outside of Easton. They had about 200 trucks on the lot and if memory serves at least on Thursday when I was there they had a high Lariat that has everything you want except the color (the one I looked at was black) but they may also have one in in the right color combo. They are willing to deal, my sales guy said they are trying to move 600 cars this month and I got what was in my opinion a VERY favorable price that made it impossible to pass up.

Just forego the Max Tow. Those of us with them are dealing with axle/bolt issues. Sure, you get bigger brakes and a bigger axle but it doesn't do anything for payload.

Besides, the Powerboost isn't a tow beast since it gives up a lot of payload. In the Lariat and Platinum trims, your payload will be around 1300 lbs (or less).

Granger may be cheap enough where it's better to do a fly and drive.

Update:
Took a month, but I picked up a Platinum with everything I wanted. (I had been tracking this particular truck and it showed up at the dealer 1 day after the tracker showed "Final Preparation")

The original Platinum I was hoping for is still nowhere to be found. (still shows waiting for shipping after having been "built" at the end of August). It is the exact mirror of this truck other than one thing so I'm not sure why it is still sitting in Dearborn. (the one difference is that the truck I bought has the heated steering wheel - still has subtractions for the motion seats and the auto parking thing but the only item I had been bummed about was the HSW, so that was a nice surprise!)

Feel a little bad for the original salesman; he called me about the arrival of the Lariat with similar specs literally an hour after I had signed for the Platinum and was waiting for the plate transfer paperwork. (Same blend and build dates as the Platinum I bought and I suspect they were in the same shipment since the dealerships are part of the same group and aren't that far apart). Don't feel too bad though since they kept dragging out the "lost" Platinum without really digging in to find out what the delay was. And when I called him to find out the status on the Lariat (when I saw that it had also shipped) he was still saying that the "lost" Platinum was coming.

12% off sticker, good trade in number, and they matched Granger on a 6/100 extended. And exactly the spec that I had originally wanted so no compromises.
