Hi All.

I’m getting a whining/ humming noise on my 2.7. This seems to happen in gears 8-10 and when I’m around 1500-1800 rpms. This only happens when I press the accelerator. As soon as I release the accelerator, the sound goes away immediately. But then reappears as soon as gas is applied again. It sounds like it is coming from the front of the vehicle. This is while in 2H. I haven’t used the 4HI or 4LO yet. This happens all the time, not just on a cold engine.

The noise does not happen at RPMS lower or above the range I mentioned above, or at least if it does its not loud enough for me to notice when driving down the road.

I just acquired this vehicle, it has 17k miles on it. This noise is pretty loud and very noticeable. Aside from it being noisy and embarrassing, I’m worried something may be damaged or become that way.

Do you know what this is? Anything I can check before taking it to dealership. I would like to get this resolved before my warranty expires.

That sorta sounds like low boost/bogging until the turbos can ramp up or drop shifting a gear. maybe a video may help but under those symptoms, is it louder with the windows down? does it do it while parked or just under load while driving at those RPMS?

It does not do this in park. It is not louder with the window down while driving.

Can you please send over a message with your VIN and estimated mileage? I would like to take a closer look at your noise concerns.

Hoping to find source of noise without having to take to dealer. Noticed today when I crawled under front, this felt piece seems to be a little loose in spots when tapping on it and it’s making some noise when hitting bolts….got me wondering if this being loose might be making noise when I press the gas. What is this piece and what is it for? Heat shield?

That is there for noise reduction. You can take it off. Many trucks left assembly line without it. If you have less noise with it off then I'd keep it off.

Unfortunately not. I removed that felt diaper but still has the same issue. It’s the only thing I don’t like about this truck. Sure wish I could find a fix…..let me know if you find anything
