More of a rant/experience but also looking for some service negotiation tactics (see below):
I have about 32,800 miles on my truck and just recently it went in for transmission work. What I have experienced is mostly downshifting from 6th gear down to 1st. Most notable in the 5th-3rd range coming to a stop light/sign. The specific instance that made me schedule an appointment with the Dealer: Coming off the highway, getting on a downhill off ramp, and coasting. Vehicle starts picking up speed, which is not normal for a vehicle in Drive ( I was not in neutral ). Thought it could have been new tires (replaced about 4,000 miles ago), until I get to a stop sign. I attempt to move forward, the vehicle lurches violently, so I left off. I had slowly moved forward but not enough to continue, so I attempt to give it gas again, lurches the same thing before. I try to I take out my phone quickly record the incident, and it finally moves forward normally. First attempt the dealer made was to reset the transmission learning cycle. Drove it 500 miles, and it still shifted roughly. So I brought it in again, and the second attempt they tore the transmission apart. I talked to the technician as well afterwards, and he said there definitely was some out of spec tolerances and replaced a ton of parts. Was told to give it 500 miles again. I happened to stop the dealership to schedule an appointment for squeaking metal on metal sound in the suspension, and the technician came out because I had asked for a road test (turns out that was my Fox shocks, never buying those again). He asked how the transmission was doing and I said not great. It is still downshifting roughly like lurching. He stated that is never normal, so I asked what would be the next step? "we'd have to start from the beginning again". Wouldn't it make sense to do the next step after tearing it down, instead of doing a reset that has been shown not to work? I have to think that there might be some bad parts in the original transmission and the rebuild didn't catch all these/flush the issues out.
The truth is, I really do love my truck, and considering the color is rare (like TRD Pro exclusive rare), I just don't want to start over with problems on a new truck. Ford has the best interior experience IMO,.
