Hi, I was reading about how the transmission will learn your driving habits and everyone commenting were new owners.

I switched my tires out for bigger ones, do I need to have the dealer reset my transmission to relearn, or will it automatically do it over time? Hoping for the latter. This would also be helpful for when I switch to my winters.

Not referring to any speedo changes etc just the learning module.

Thanks!

it will never reset on its own once it has learned your original driving habits. i do suggest you get it reset though.

Ok - so it's one and done not a continuous learning. For example I suddenly start towing a ton or I add a 400 lb canopy with tent permanently.

How often is it worth reseting? Also how do i do that with forscan...

to ME, it’s only worth resetting if your vehicle has a substantial weight increase or decrease. either or can mess with your everyday driving habits so therefore resetting the the transmission tables will prevent any of the unpleasant driving experiences.

It resets everytime you receive a PCM update on if I'm not mistaken. So some of our 2021-2023 trucks have relearned multiple times.

Ok. I added new 35 inch tires, and at about 10k I got a leer cap and decked so my weight changed. Figured it would be worth doing a reset… but how?

@Snakebitten how often do we get PCM updates? Thanks for the help.

I believe my Job2 2022 has received 3 or 4 PCM updates via OTA/FDRS.

But you can clear the Adaptive Tables anytime you choose to with Forscan. I believe you can even disable Adaptive Learning for the transmission.

Any idea how I do that in Forscan? I can't seem to find a thread that illustrates how. Nor do I see it on the LIVINITUP doc.

Thanks.

Correct on both counts Bruce ?

Marcus, you'll find it under the Service Procedures (the wrench icon on the left hand side). You can:
- reset adaptive learning
- halt / resume adaptive learning
- stop use of (disable) adaptive learning

Is there any advantage to removing adaptive learning?

When I tried it, it stopped the 1-3-5 etc. skip shifting in normal mode, but that's all. I've never had any harsh shifting or indeed any peculiar behaviour from this 10R80 (my second, both flawless). I reset and resumed adaptive learning a week or so after stopping use of it and the 10R80 doesn't even enter my mind while driving these days, in normal or eco.

Having said that, if you've made a change to any aspect that could affect the performance of gearing, then a reset of the adaptive tables might be a good thing.

I imagine it's a subjective preference?
I don't have anything but anecdotal experience, but if my Adaptive Tables are cleared for any reason, I drive the next 50 or so miles in Sport Mode just to insure that the values being entered into those tables are influenced by the so called Sport Mode shift strategy.
I don't mean to imply that I drive more aggressively than I normally would, but I do want the "learn" to be all 10 gear ratios and the shift points and pressures of that mode.

Then I return to Normal Mode so that I get to leverage the fuel economy of EV cruising and such.

If I could have just one wish granted me by the Powerboost team at Ford, it would be to remove the ridiculous blocking of EV mode in Sport Mode. If the aftermarket Tuners ever stumble upon that ability, I will immediately have my truck "tuned" just for that feature.

Thanks @Snakebitten. I have the Powerboost as well and almost never drive in Sport Mode so I didn't even know the no EV. When do you typically find it useful day to day to be in Sport Mode? I use Eco and normal.

Sounds like a good idea if I clear the tables and then do one of my drives from Alberta to Montana. All sorts of start stop and places to fully accelerate and decelerate. Good feedback on using the Sport mode for that.

Isn't adaptive learning continuously ongoing? It doesn't just learn for XX miles and then lock into those settings. Correct?
