After towing my 5800# travel trailer about 7 hours round trip get away this past weekend, the transmission in my ‘21 PB when down shifting into 1st gear has begun making a loud “clunk” noise just before coming almost to a complete stop. It’s been “clunking” when towing in the past. But this trip it became more prevalent and consistent. I’ve read other threads here that mention this issue. I’m no where near over weight in my towing. Truck has 64k+ miles on it. Anyone else experiencing this? What’s the solution?

Are you sure it is the transmission and not the rear differential?

Short box.

And I am not positive it’s the tranny. Is there a resolution if it is the diff?

unplug the battery overnight. Mine was rough the next day, but smoothed out over the next few hundred miles.

I still get the 4 to 3 clunky jerky downshift. Hopefully it's enough to get the CDF drum taken care of. My parents 2023 lariat is so much better.
