Hi All,

I have a 2022 F150 XLT. It‘s an FX4 5L V8. It has 19k miles on it. I encountered a really odd thumping noise twice yesterday. It first happened about 30 seconds out of my driveway. All of a sudden it sounded like I had a flat tire or something stuck in the rear passenger wheel. This happened for about 5 seconds and I pulled over to get out and check the rear of the truck. Nothing obvious, no flat tire, etc. I got back in, started up the truck again and after another minute of driving it started again with the same exact sound. It really sounds like the slap/thump of a flat tire or something stuck in the wheel. I pulled over again and the sound continues past when I’m at a full stop and even a little after I turned off the ignition. The sound is quite loud and concerning, the vibration of the thump is easy to feel in the seat/floor of the driver seat. Another note on the thumping sound is that it is a little sporadic, not a consistent beat. For all the drive thus far I’m at 25 mph or less. I got back in and drove around for about a mile around my neighborhood and it didn’t repeat the sound this time.

For the rest of my drive around the neighborhood though my main display was intermittently glitchy, with a quick flash on the screen every 5-10 seconds. I don’t really know where to start and couldn’t find other threads that seemed like this exact issue. It has a B&O speaker system and I wondered if that could be the culprit. A few other issues I’ve run into lately as well in case they are relevant — I’ve had issues with the truck not recognizing I’m approaching the car. Exterior lights won‘t turn on, sometimes it won’t unlock when I put my hand on the handle to open the door. The interior lights won’t turn on when the car gets opened. All these issues with the lights/recognizing the key are pretty random and don’t happen every time, but happen quite regularly. I also have a clunking sound when going over the gutter in my driveway or hitting the bottom of the driveway. I have seen threads on that and will have my dealer check for any loose parts or other issues with suspension, etc.

I told all this to the dealer yesterday, but my appointment won’t be for another month. I have a video that I’ll try and attach. The video somewhat captures the sound, though in person it sounds a little more intense. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

hmm i wonder if a bad battery could be the culprit behind all of your electrical gremlins..

Definitely thought about the battery for the electrical issues. The truck was just in for service and oil change recently and they supposedly do a battery test. The electrical issues were going on before then. Maybe the thumping is an electrical issue in the end as well.

For the electrical, check the battery in the key fob remote as well. With all these new conveniences we are used to (vehicle approach unlock, lighting, etc.)the truck relies heavily on being able to communicate consistently with that little remote. Often times when we are away from the track and have the remote in our pocket, we may be inadvertently be pressing a button to draw down that battery. I have chased electrical issues in the past on other cars and I should have started with some of the most simple basic parts first. This does not help with the thumping, but hopefully this could be a simple fix for the electrical side. However, maybe the thumping is because of the auto-lock feature not working properly (auto lock usually kicks in at speeds greater than 12mph) because it is not communicating with the key fob?

Audio system on the fritz. Go have the battery tested at an auto parts store. Given time, money, and the questionable quality of ford's AGM, you may just want to read up on a battery thread here for solid replacements.

On the center screen when you shut the truck off does it say shut vehicle off to save battery
It sounds like your battery is not 100% charged And are you sure the thumping noise is not coming from speakers

Good morning. Would you please send over a private message with your VIN and dealer info so I can look into this noise concern on my end?

Thanks to everyone for your replies! I’ll try and make it to an auto parts store to test the battery today. It no doubt seems like most of my issues could stem from a bad battery or other electrical problems. I really didn’t think about it until seeing various replies, but my auto stop start doesn’t work (don’t miss it obviously) and there is no auto lock of the doors once I get up to a certain speed. Screen was glitchy again today. But, I haven’t had a repeat of the thumping noise yet, which I’m beginning to think is the speakers. Lots to look into when I make it to my dealer appointment. Hopefully they will dive into everything fully.

I feel like I have seen that message before, but not recently or regularly. The speakers are starting to be my main assumption for the thumping based on feedback thus far. Also wonder if the other electrical issues would have a direct effect on the speaker system or if they would be isolated issues.

The main screen used to turn on and off by itself. And other things used to shut off and reset on by itself
