I own an old Prestone coolant strength tester. This is a bulb type were you squeeze the rubber bulb and then it sucks up the coolant. There is a pointer that floats and points to a scale showing the freeze/boiling point.
I measured the coolant strength in both the high and low temp reservoirs and both showed a freeze point a little under -20 F. I also measured the strength of a partial gallon of pre-diluted Ford yellow antifreeze and it too measured around -20 F.
This has me wondering if my old tester is bad or not read correctly with newer coolants? I believe Ford says to use a refractometer but they are expensive. I don’t trust Amazon ones that sell for $15. Or should I blow $15 on an Amazon special?
