I refuse to buy a tailgate that uses a push button to open. Must be why I don't have a step ?

I just don't understand how 50# makes or breaks a tow rig. You should have a 10% fudge fact in anyways

Never tried it, but sure it could be done. The “computers” are all the same, it’s just as matter of telling them what kind of tailgate is present. Prob most settings are in the body control module.

I think I can buy the parts. It is manual operation anyway, so how does it affect the computer?

The OP was 3 years ago but I wish I had his tailgate step on my '21 Velocity Blue XLT. Having the HDPP, I can manage the extra weight. It's the one thing I really miss on this used truck.

I have the step and I use it all the time. I'm getting too old to be jumping up into the bed anymore and the trucks just keep getting taller.
