Step Tailgate "Stripper Pole" got stuck!

I had the first generation tailgate step and removing that stripper pole was the first truck mod. Current step at least you don't have a stupid handle on inside panel of tailgate. Made it a pain to slide anything in and out of bed so it had to go.

Can you explain how you got it fixed? Mine is currently stuck and won’t close.

If I remember correctly, I had to remove all 4 bolts around the pole and use a very long, heavy screwdriver to push the release for the locking pin. It took some muscle to get that pin to release.

This isn't the best photo because the pole is retracted, but those are the 4 bolts to remove.

I had to go at it from the top of the tailgate. Unscrewing that plate around the hole gave me enough room to get to the release with a long screwdriver.
