Hey guys

Just got my 2022 F150, 4x4, screw, 6.5' bed. Steering this thing in reverse or forward is like half the steering from my old truck. 2005 F150 4x4, screw, 5.5 bed. Does the 12" of added wheelbase make that much of a difference? Or has ford changed the steering through they years?

Define half the steering. Do you mean in quality, effort, number of turns lock to lock?

They have definitely changed the steering multiple times since 2005. Major item being that it’s now electric assist instead of hydraulic assist.

That would be excellent information to know. My bad.

The turning radius. Driving in the same lots and same spaces I've always parked, I've had to two point steer quite a few of them. Backing a 26 ft boat into a ramp around a corner of a crowded parking lot is going to be a bear.

I went from an ‘08 6.5‘ bed/screw to a 5.5‘ bed/screw and it’s taking me some time to get used to the steering. I haven’t looked up to see if the turning radius is different but it does feel like it.

So you went to a shorter wheelbase and you feel your turning radius is better or worse now?

They’ve changed the steering AND the wheelbase matters. The tightest turning F-150 is the 122” WB at 41.2” and the widest is the 164” at 52.5“, and although the difference between the 145” and 157” is only from 47.8’ to 51.1’, even that alone is more than a big enough difference to perceive, ignoring front end differences and EPAS vs traditional power steering.

Just sent back my one year survey on my 21 f150 screw cab short bed, Turning radius absolutely sucks. They say it turns a 47' circle, that would make it a 23 1/2' Turning radius. I know I used to be able to easily do a 'U' turn on our main Street, can't even come close now. It's going to be worthless back in the woods. Absolutely loved my 2005 Lariat, this one has been a huge disappointment.

My 18 Super Duty 4x4 Crew Cab short bed parked better than my 21 F150 4x4 Crew Cab short bed does.
