Yeah try a search on the topic for a ton of pics. I personally used a rubberized undercoating spray from 3m. Its thick and stops the rocks from fucking up the bed. Its also lasted a long time and was easy to apply with nothing more than a cardboard shield.

Liners just seem easier to me. ??‍♂ Maybe 5 min to install on each side.
And liners trap debris between the liner itself, and the inner fender well. I used to spray versus a plastic liner for that exact reason.
